Shirley's POV

Sergeant Lipton came to get us in PT formation to run the hill.

~~~
"Oh, Easy Company! Ay while you're runnin, don't worry, we'll take your Dames to the movies for ya!"
"Yeah, good! They need some female company!" This got many from the company to laugh and be in better spirits. As we ran past, the men of Easy smacked the heads of the other company men.
While running, Sobel started to yell. "Where do we run?"
"Currahee!"
"And what does Currahee mean?"
"We stand alone!"
"How far up, how far down?"
"3 miles up, 3 miles down!"
"And what company is this?"
"Easy company!"
"And what do we do?"
"stand alone!"
At that moment, one of the men in the front tripped and rolled his ankle. The two men beside him began to help him to his feet. That was until Sobel began to yell again.
"Do not help that man! Do not help that man! We do not stop!" What an ass.
"You've got 13 minutes to get to the top of this mountain if you wanna serve in the Paratroopers! HI-HO SILVER!"
I was one of the first to the top, but unlike most of the others I had been more prepared for these runs. These were parts of the training that helped me prove myself to all the men. Although not many spoke to me, I could tell they were getting more used to my presence and more accepting of the fact that I was a part of Easy Company.
We began our march in the pitch dark. I kind of enjoyed them actually, the lack of water was a son of a -.
"Lieutenant Winters."
"What is it?"
"Permission to speak, sir."
"Permission granted."
"Sir, we got nine companies, sir."
"We do."
"How come were the only company marching every Friday night, 12 miles, full pack in the pitch dark?"
"Why do you think Private Randleman?"
"Lieutenant Sobel hates us, sir."
"Lieutenant Sobel does not hate Easy Company, Private Randleman. He just hates you!"
This got everyone laughing.
"Thank you, sir!"
A voice, sounding like George Luz spoke up, "He hates Shirley the most!"
Ain't that the truth.
~~~
"Lieutenant Winters, I want canteens out of belts and the caps unscrewed."
"Easy Company, canteens out and open."
"On my command, they will pour the contents onto the ground."
"On the CO's order, you will upend your canteen."
"Now, Lieutenant."
"Pour em!"
Christenson's canteen had been drank out of, he had not felt great on the march, and now he would feel the wrath of Sobel.
"Why is there no water in your canteen? You drank from your canteen, didn't you?"
"Sir, I-"
"Lieutenant Winters."
"Yes, sir."
"Was this man ordered to not drink from his canteen during the Friday night march?"
"He was, sir."
"Private Christenson, you have disobeyed a direct order. You will fill your canteen and repeat ALL 12 miles of the march immediately!"
"Yes, sir."
"FALL OUT!"
