He helped you clean up and the two of you spent the entire day together, attached at the hip. When the night eventually came, you wanted to be well rested, and he held you until you fell asleep. You woke up before dawn and slipped out of his hold, taking what you needed and leaving for the trip. You did leave a small note with a clue of where you'd be before you left because your guilt got to you, but hopefully you'd be back before he had it figured out.
An old acquaintance who would rather take jail time over snitching if paid enough, hooked you up with a helicopter that was similar to a Stark one where it was self-flying. You punched in some coordinates, further than you needed in case it was traced, and sat back, trying not shake your leg with anticipation.
By the look of the map and how many hours you've been in the air, you knew you were close, so you strapped on your suit and double checked you had everything you needed.
When you were less than a minute out, you ignored your heart hammering in your chest, smiling to yourself because this is what you were born to do, and finally put your goggles on.
You ripped the helicopter's retriever out in case you made it out of this alive and needed a way back right before you dove out the side door.
"Whoo!" You shouted into the air, your arms out, and feeling the push of wind against you as you fell.
When you were about three quarters of the way down, you extracted the wings and flew around a bit, getting the hang of them, before landing somewhat gracefully. With this added extra, thanks to Sam, you were able to start where you left off last time.
You quickly buried the wings under some branches, out of sight, and then confidently made your way forward, knowing you were entering the surveillance area now.
"Guess who's back," You sang under your breath, jogging, "Back again."
You slid under the trip wire that was about the height of your midthighs and got up, starting to run faster. When you could hear the dogs barking in the distance, you smirked to yourself, not letting it bother you like last time because you had been training relentlessly for this.
You got down on one knee and put a hand to the ground, sensing the twenty or so dog heartbeats since their bare paws were on the ground and whispered a small,
"Sleep, pups." Before you felt them fall to the ground, snoring soundly.
This caused panic, just like you knew it would, among the people leading them and you took this advantage, whipping out two guns and holding them to your chest when you pressed your back against a tree. They cautiously marched forward and you turned to your right, shooting six or so before they had time to process what was going on. You went behind the tree again for only a second before doing the same to the left side, taking down four more men.
You reloaded, discarding the empty clips, and ran forward between the fallen bodies and past the sleeping dogs. You ran in a zig zag, remembering how that might've saved your life last time and controlled your breathing, silently thanking Sam again for his rigorous runs that you got addicted to.
You were getting closer, you could feel it, but that just meant the traps would be riskier.
Even though you were wearing a mask that covered your nose and mouth, they knew who you were. You had the same build and showed the same skill as someone who came close to infiltrating them not even a year ago now. They didn't get many visitors, virtually they didn't exist, and you were someone on their ability level that they were already paying attention to.
They sent more guys and the ones you couldn't take down with your bullets, you took down with a hand to the ground, slowing their pulse as you hid safely in a ditch behind another tree until it stopped.
Then, it was there.
All the research, all the rumors, all the curiosity, all the practice, and all this time, finally led to this one place.
It was a gray dome shape, you knew most of it was hidden underground, but even then, it was still a generous size and the door was heavily bolted. It wasn't guarded because they liked to stay hidden and having anyone outside the abandoned looking bomb shelter would cause suspicion and might raise some red flags. But they didn't need the extra manpower because their passcode alarm system was high grade enough to make it impossible to crack.
Nearly.
You pulled down your mask, smiling and winking up at the camera that turned to train itself on you before pressing a hand to the door, keeping your eyes on the lens.
"Escape from the city and follow the sun..." You sang to yourself, focusing your powers on every click and hit you needed to meet.
It took a moment, and you could feel the people watching through the camera sweating, the anticipation building within them of whether this girl from America, like them, could actually crack the lock that took them decades to perfect or not. You felt it click just right and smirked up at the camera before pushing the door open, crouching down as you were soon met with about five armed soldiers with guns.
You shot at them and they returned it more so before you leaned your back up against the wall, but then you got an idea just as about ten more were sent in, determined to kill you dead before you could breach their base any further.
You took a spare bullet from the belt across your chest and kissed it for luck, laughing at yourself, and then throwing it in the air, hitting it with your pistol like a bat to a ball. They barely noticed as they charged down the hallway, but then you used your powers from having a trace of your DNA on the bullet to make it fly through each of their skulls one at a time. They dropped dead on the floor and the whole place lit up like Christmas with red lights, alarms blaring.
You walked through, dropping the clips you used but weren't empty, and loading up for good measure. You put a hand to the wall, checking for high electrical pulses, and felt where the main room was before heading that way. More guards came for you and more traps were set in your way, but the adrenaline pumping through your veins had you feeling lighter than air, breezing by these obstacles and leaving dozens among dozens of bodies in your wake.
You were born for this.
