After I reach home, I flung myself on my bed. My bed and I share a great relationship. We have been through a lot, especially my mom's morning calls from my deep slumber.
I close my eyes and relax, and before I know it my mom is calling me.
"Zainab Maryam Accords!" Yep, my surname's weird.
"Mom...," I whine.
"You can stop your whines. Your friends are the ones calling you downstairs." Great! I now have friends who destroy my bed love.
"BTW it's almost 5 o'clock, and seeing your "amazing" mood, I have made pizza rolls."
Oh yum! Forget my bed love, and let's get on with my pizza rolls.
"Coming mom. And mom," I stop her,"Thanx"
I quickly freshen up, and wear a deep blue maxi dress for the party. I add some accessories and I go downstairs. My girl squad A.K.A Zoë, Alex, Liya and Clover is waiting downstairs, and devouring my pizza rolls.
"Hey hey hey, leave some for me," I say loudly, and just my luck, I see 4 wonderful pizza rolls waiting for me.
"Your mom's an amazing cook. I give her an A+," Liya says and winks at my mom.
"You better give her an A+ infinity, cause she is good," Clover replies.
"Yeah," adds Zoë and Alex. And what about me, I am in pizza roll wonderland.
"Umm, child, I think if pizza was alive, it would be running away from you, cause girl, you are eating them fast," says Alex.
"Oh, you are just jealous that you can't enjoy pizza rolls as much as I do," I reply and stick my tongue out.
"Okay okay. That's enough bickering. You guys should get going," my mom shouts from the kitchen.
And she's true. It's fast approaching 6 o'clock and we had to get back by 8. Yup, strict curfews. -.-
We reach Michael's venue in 10 mins. Entering his house, we greet him, Raziq, Chris and Shawn. Me and Michael have been in the same class from kindergarten, and the other guys are his chumps who like him think they are "manly".
After a bit of socializing, we nine friends gather around in the living room. Me, Liya and Alex bag the three-seater sofa. Shawn is sitting on the armrest next to Alex. Zoë and Clover next bag the two-seater, and Michael being the host, lays himself on the one-seater.
"Great move, girls" Rafiq mutters. He and Chris are the ones without a sofa. Rafiq approaches me to sit on the armrest next to me, but I give him a glare. But being the sweet girl that I am, I throw couple of cushions for the boys to make themselves comfy on the floor.
"Time to pick the movies," Zoë screams.
"Since you guys are "manly"," I quote with my fingers,"let's watch "My Sister's Keeper"."
Everyone seems to agree, and we switch on the movie.
Halfway through the movie, I look up and I swear I see glassed up eyes in my guy friends' eyes. So much for being tough. Haha.
Just thirty minutes before the end of the movie, I get a call from my mom. I pick up the phone, nervous.
"Hello?" I greet.
"Salam, Zai, Come to the Westwood hospital quickly, Firaz got into an accident." Firaz is my older brother.
And with that, she cut the phone. Standing out in Michael's porch, I felt tears streaming down my face. Firaz and I are not quite close. We were long before, but as we grew up, we drifted apart. But he is my brother, and I love him.
I turn back, and I see Zoë standing there with open arms. I hug her tightly. Quickly, I dry my tears, and go back to the others. I tell them of the news.
"I will drop you," says Michael. I thank him silently.
Alex, Clover, Chris and Rafq want to come along, but their parents want them back home. Shawn drops them. All of them comfort me, and promise to visit me tomorrow.
Together, me, Michael, Zoë and Liya enter the car to go to the hospital.
I pray to God to save my brother, and I realize that my confession to Michael and Liya stays with me longer.
