Your grip around your luggage handle grew tighter. You exhaled sharply as you tapped your foot on the ground. Where is he? The road infront of you winded up the hill and you sat on the guardrail as you waited. I have the right address, don't I?

You looked at your surroundings. Spectacular. You'd never been to the mountains before and it was as beautiful as the brochures pictured. Your eyes were lit, the sun dripping down through the trees and you traced the moss on the stone wall opposite you with your eyes. The distant mountains were huge and you took a moment to soak in the beautiful scenery around you, standing up. Spending most of your life deep in the city, you never travelled or even really left Tokyo. There was nobody here besides the families of birds in the trees.

"Heyooo!" You turn to the right and see Gojo skip towards you, as happy as ever. "What a lovely day- Oh right, my apologies!" He cups the back of his neck as he notices your unimpressed expression.

"You're late. By 23 minutes."
"Nuh uh. By 22 minutes actually!"

Your stare burns through him, he chuckles and ruffles your hair a bit before explaining that you're here to meet the principal. A nervous knot tied in your stomach, you're not good at conversations and interviews.

"Tokyo Jujutsu High School!" Gojo exclaimed happily, standing infront of you with his hands in the air. "It's way bigger than I expected, isn't this supposed to be that private religious school?" My mouth agape as we walked under the entrance arch and through the campus. "That's just a cover." Gojo smirked and I nodded.

After some talk about Japanese dessert, we both got to the stairs before the principal's building. The whole campus was beautifully traditional, the smell of mahogany refreshing your nose. We walked under yet another arch before arriving at the door.

"Screw this up and he could turn down your admission, just like that."
"Huh!? And what, I just go home?
"Yyyep!"

I scoffed. The aged concrete steps crumbled beneath my feet as Gojo and I arrived at the door, walking through. The room was dark, the only light emitting from candles mounted on wooden pillars around the room. It smelled damp.

"You're late, Satoru."
I gasped then covered my mouth as the principal told him off. The door closed behind us.
"Eight minutes late."
I averted my gaze to the principal. Was he, knitting? No, doll making?? I quickly looked to the side and stifled a chuckle as we both walked to the centre of the room.

The principal sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded with what looked like stuffed animals. Such a big, serious, old man is making children's toys? This is almost laughable. I examined the dolls from afar as Gojo and the principal exchanged snappy remarks.

"Principal Masamichi Yaga" Gojo stated, turning to you.
"This is the girl?" The principal pointed at me.

I scrambled to bow my head. " I am (Y/N L/N). It's an honour to meet you, sir." I exhaled briefly, making sure my body language was rigid and polite. "What are you here for?" His monotonous voice shook me. What was I even here for? Jujutsu? A crazy, deranged man with bad posture brought me here!

"Erm, I'm here to learn the art of jujutsu, I guess?" I mentally scolded myself for being so informal. "I mean beyond that. What do you hope to find once you've studied curses, and learned the art of exorcising them?" I was taken aback, I didn't even think about that yet. You gritted your teeth and lied.

"I wanna save people."

"Incorrect. I sense the insincerity in your voice. And besides, you'd save people, but what benefit would that serve you?"

"I'd feel better about myself.." I stammered as the principle's stare burned through his glasses.

"So you're telling me you'd only learn jujutsu to save others, for the simple reason of comforting yourself? You could've just given me blunt, selfish reason and that would have been more believable. People die everyday of different causes but you'll turn a blind eye, but saving those dying of curses is better for you?" The principal stood up, his questions echoed in your soul. Suddenly, one of his dolls, stood up!? It's alive-?
The green, ugly doll charged at me head first, pummelling me in the stomach. I swallowed my vomit as I went hurdling back into a pillar, wiping the spit off my face.
"What the-"
"A person's true nature reveals itself during a crisis. I'll keep attacking you until I get an acceptable answer."

You stood up, frustration lingering in your voice. "How is it wrong to want to save people!? Isn't that what this is for?" You sprinted towards the doll, hammering your fist into its face. The doll flew back, but quickly recovered. It's fast. It sprang between the pillars, becoming impossible to trace and I could only brace myself.

"Being a jujutsu sorcerer, you're not always going to save the people you want to save. We aren't doctors. We don't do this just for the sake of saving people but to exorcise the curse and grow as sorcerers. A jujutsu sorcerer constantly faces death, sometimes you must ignore the victims. My cursed corpse will keep attacking you until you are truthful in your answer."

I sat there with gritted teeth as the doll jeered and taunted me. I had to remain calm.

"It's an unpleasant job. You have to be highly motivated, and perhaps a little crazy to handle it."

"So tell me, when you fight just to save others, there will be those you cannot save. Are you going to blame yourself for their deaths? Don't make me laugh."
"Damn, old man. You're kinda harsh." I was interrupted by the damned corpse, uppercutting me, leaving me on the floor.
"At the rate you're going, you're gonna end up cursing everyone else for your own wish."

Damn. That hit me pretty hard. He could see right through me and my lies about wanting to save people. My body creaked as I stood up, getting back into my stance and punching through the doll, taking it into a chokehold soon after. I sat on the floor, rage pulsating in my mind.

"You want honesty?" I spat. "I don't care about saving others. I do have selfish reasonings for coming. I wanted to prove something to myself! I've lived my whole life, not achieving anything, just believing that I was better than everyone else.  You want me to just sit at my job, still believing in that mindset, knowing I gave up at the first chance I got? I want to give myself a reason to think I'm better than everyone else, and if it takes saving some people along the way, so be it! I don't care if it's a narcissist way of speaking. I won't sit idly by anymore!" I stopped, surprised that I was almost yelling and my voice echoed back to me. I turned to Gojo, who had a smirk on his face.

"And with that. Satoru, show (Y/N L/N) to her dorm."
