The mention of magic had caused a dense silence to fill the room, to use magic on a wolf would be punished by exilement or death but the young doctor knew that it was why he'd been so nervous to bring it up, being brand new in a pack and casually suggesting they brek
one of their fundamental rules on his say so was not a good way to introduce himself but the way he felt looking at that poor little Luna, he wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he had said nothing and allowed her to carry on living like that. Doctor Witstock looked at his sons and their new Mate, she didn't even know who she was to them yet. She didn't have a
wolf and with the malnourishment, poisoning and torture it was little wonder she couldn't smell them for what they were to her. He struggled with himself, he could call his wife, keep it a secret and transport the necessary people in the dark but that would depend on Lissa's mum answering a phone that hasn't run in 22 years and quite honestly he wouldn't blame Marie if she didn't. The way she had been treated by him and the total isolation from her daughter and grandsons, even if she did answer the phone he fully expected her to hang up if they got as far as asking her to come back on to packland she'd been exiled from, to
perform magic she could be killed for, as a favour to him and his wife for his children, which she had been banned from having any access to.
It had been discovered just weeks after Melissa (his Mate) had given birth that her mum Marie had been born with magic, not only born with it but was learnt in it and practiced it. Marcus had been forced to exile Marie from the packlands, had he not been the Alpha at the time she would have been put to death, not that it really made a difference since she had
been banned from any and all forms of communication with any member of the pack, Lissa
and the boys were also banned from communicating with her. Rumours had reached him since that the old woman had joined a new pack and was now
openly performing magic to help or heal others. Would she answer if Lissa called her, would she want to help? Would she do it for her grandsons, for her future granddaughter-in-law? He couldn't believe he was actually considering allowing someone to perform magic on a member of his pack but he knew from the second he'd seen magic as a potential solution
nearly 3 hours ago that he was going to call his wife, he was going to ask her to call her mum and he was going to do everything in his power to help this plan succeed, for his children sakes if nothing else.
He grasped his phone in his hand having a silent battle with his law-abiding personality.
"Goddess" He whispered to the skies "forgive me and persuade her to help us, we don't deserve it from her but for the sake of my boys and the Mate you have fated to them, please let her help us"
He stepped out into the hospital pick up area and he called his wife.
"You want me to ........what?!.........No............I mean I heard you.........I just ...................
Marcus that is a lot of information to take in, are you sure that is the only solution?
.................Of course I'll do it .............. I just don't know what you are expecting................what if she doesn't answer?........................No, of course I will just don't
hang all your hopes on this that is all................Yes I understand, Love you too"
Lissa had been as shocked as Marcus had expected her to be and while he wanted to be kind and patient with her like he always is he also thought it was in all of their best interests if this whole thing was completed as quickly and quietly as possible. For that to be done he needed his wife onboard with the plan sooner rather than later and that didn't leave a lot of
time for smoothing her into the situation and solution.
Lissa stood, confused and alone in her front room twirling her phone round in circles between her fingers. She was contemplating what she was about to do, she hadn't spoken to her mum since the twins were 6 weeks old. She had left her mum in the nursery, watching the boys while she had gone to take a shower but she had left her phone in the room so had
returned to pick it up, when she had entered the room her mum had been standing over the babies cots spell casting above them. Lissa had shrieked, calling out to her mum to stop, she never completed whatever she had been doing and regardless of the many times her
mum had tried to tell her it was a blessing spell, Lissa had been terrified of what she had seen her mum doing, she hadn't even known her mum had magic nevermind that she knew how to use it. Lissa had gone immediately to Marcus but begged him not to have her mum put to death, it would kill her to cut ties with her mum, especially since she had just given birth but it was that or her mum be killed and she couldn't bare the thought of a world that her mum didn't exist in, somewhere. She grappled a little more as she tried to build the courage to dial her mum's number, it felt
wrong to be calling her after all this time to return to where she was exiled from to do almost exactly what she had been exiled for doing, what on earth made anyone think her mum would agree to this, after being thrown away, barred access to her grandbabies and ignored by her daughter, now they were going to casually call and ask her for a favour. She jumped as her phone rang in her hand, she looked guiltily around her as though she expected the warriors to come and arrest her, even though she hadn't actually done anything illegal yet. The number on the phone was private but everything in her told her to answer it.
She accepted the call and gingerly placed her phone to her ear.
"Mellie, please take a breath I can feel your anxiety from all the way over here my little Lady Bee"
She tried to choke out a hello around the sudden downfall of tears, her mum sounded exactly as she always had. In High school Melissa had started to use the nickname Lissa, never really feeling like she suited the name Melissa but to her mum she would always be Mellie or Lady Bee. Hearing her mum's voice after so long felt like a tight hug after a hard
day. She couldn't believe her mum had phoned her after all this time just as she'd been about to call her.
"Mother's intuition is a magical thing Mellie"
Her mum chuckled down the phone, answering the question Lissa hadn't asked yet. She went on to say she was happily there for all of them, that she wanted to help them. Her voice was firm but kind, even as she laughed her voice soothed Lissa's inner turmoil over
the situation. She insisted she wanted to help her grandbabies and she'd just known she needed to call and that she was needed.
"Well Ma, they aren't babies anymore, actually I'm calling you, or well you are calling me, or whichever, we need help. They found their Mate, Ma by the Goddess, this girl, the things they have done to her, her so called parents. She has been beaten, broken, poisoned, they
killed her wolf, encased her skin in silver and then she's been neglected, bullied, scared to death and goodness only knows what else. She isn't even 18 or just turned 18 and she has endured and survived more than most people would know existed. If they clean her blood
she could die, if they remove the silver she might not have enough skin left to not get infections or bleed to death, then she has no wolf so the pain from recovery or the time it takes could all be too much for her. She is so little and so beautiful and if we can't help her,
my boys, the pain from her death will kill them, they have waited for her for so long, they don't deserve for this to be it, for this to be the only time they get with her, they don't deserve that pain, they deserve a long and happy life with her and she is just so
broken.................."
"Do you need a hug"
Lissa's head snapped up from where she had been staring at the floor in dismay. She shrieked as she saw her mum, unlike the last time, this was a shriek of joy and longing. She had no clue how her mum was standing in her lounge and she suspected it would be better if she didn't ask, the truth was she didn't care. She threw herself across the room and into her
mum's arms. She started sobbing the moment her mum's arms made contact with her and once she started she couldn't stop. She had never been much of a crier but after Marcus had sent her a picture of that poor little pup in that massive hospital bed, with her sons like bodyguards beside her, she'd been on the verge of tears, now that she was snuggled up with her mum the tears fell freely. Her mum rubbed sympathetic circles into her back but didn't say anything in an effort to stop the crying. Marie was of the impression that some emotions were too big for words, sometimes emotions needed tears to truly convey the depths of the feelings being felt, whether that was happiness, anger, sadness or desperation.
Lissa sniffled herself into silence as her mother handed her a tissue.
"I can't ask you to do what I'm supposed to be asking you to do"
Lissa blew her nose and looked at her mum, they both knew the wolf council would put her to death if she was caught on packland, nevermind on packland to perform magic on a pack member and no amount of her grandsons being the Alphas would save her from execution this time. Her mum however reassured her that she knew and understood the risks involved,
she was here to help and screw the consequences. Lissa laughed through a fresh wave of tears, her mother hadn't changed in the slightest. Lissa called Marcus after she had settled down a bit and talked through things more with her mum. She told Marcus that not only was her mum on board with the plan but she was also in their house. Marcus laughed, while it should have been unexpected information in reality it
really wasn't. He was so nervous about their plan but he couldn't just sit by and allow nothing to happen, this girl deserves help and his boys deserved all the happiness the world had to offer. They would however have to carry this very carefully, he wasn't going to risk Marie being caught, she was critical to this, so her protection was crucial to succeeding.
