The room filled with people as the twins took their Mate from their grandma and carefully laid her out on her bed. Each boy took one of her hands tightly in their own and said silent prayers to the Goddess, from here on out they were all but useless unless their strength was needed for anything.
Marie stepped forward, Marcus on her left and Lissa and Doctor Coupson facing her on the other side of the bed. The medical equipment was set up and sorted as the doctors prepared the medical necessities while Marie laid her hands softly on the bed and began to gather energies and strength from the people in the room and from the room itself. Despite days of
research, some very peculiar internet searches and many ‘hypothetical’ questions of colleagues they still had no idea how or if this was going to work. Marie closed her eyes to focus her abilities as sparks began to dance along her hands and down fingers. The sparks
chased each other onto the little Lunas body and traversed curiously across her skin. The shackles were the first things touched by the orbs of light and instantly began to tremble and vibrate. The metal was glowing and visibly increasing in heat but more concerningly the sparks had found the corset and sections of fabric had begun to smoulder and then burn. The doctors raced around trying to contain and stop the flames before they burnt the areas
underneath. The smell of singed flesh filled the room as the silver on her arms and legs went from vibrating to boiling, streaks of Silver were now dripping along her limbs and onto the bed. The twins joined the doctors as they all made very careful but also their best attempt to scrape the liquid Silver off her skin before it could do anymore damage but that meant the
areas beneath were now being exposed without anyone to take care of the open wounds.
The open wounds were worse than they had feared, it wasn’t as though the skin had rotted away it simply looked like it had never existed. Blood from the now uncovered areas was streaming from her arms, legs and waist, soaking onto the bed and had begun dripping onto the floor. Marcus and Melissa rushed to the sites to apply bandaging and tourniquets, they
secured blood bags and took the patient off her dialysis machine in a vain attempt to keep as much of her blood in her body as possible. Marie, seeing the fear and chaos doubled down her efforts and forced more magic through her hands, she was determined for this to work, sweat was beginning to leak from the sides of her head but she smiled as she caught her
daughters concerned eye, mouthing ‘I love you’ before returning all her efforts to the task at hand.
The heart rate and blood pressure monitors were both now also going berserk to add to the confusion of focus in the room, the readings were sky high on one and almost negative on the other, neither were looking very promising and it made for grim reading when one of the twins printed off a read out.
“Mum, her body, I think she is really struggling”
Rogan couldn’t articulate what he was feeling from her but his wolf Apollo was whimpering inside his head and the emotions he was getting from Rio and Atlas were adding to his own stress and fear. It felt like she was slipping away somehow, like her spirit was somewhere far away. Rogan felt desperate, desperate for this to end, to be finished, to work, he wanted to
hold his little Mate, give her all of his strength and energy to use to get through this.
“WE COULD MARK HER”
Both boys shouted in unison to the collective surprise of everyone conscious in the room. The boys had always been reprimanded when they were younger for talking at the same time. It was important to their parents that they grew up individually and didn’t rely on each other to have a voice. So it was very rare since they had entered adulthood for them to have
the same thought, at the same time, nevermind being in the same place to voice it simultaneously.
They looked at each other and then looked hopefully at their parents. Marcus and Lissa looked at each and then at their boys with concern and unease evident on their faces. Marking is an important process, it shows acceptance of one another, a commitment to each
other but it is also normally done with consent or the understanding of consent on both or all sides but unconscious people can’t give consent. Marcus knew that the trio hadn’t had very long to get to know each other. The mark was only one part of the process, she could still reject them if they marked her but were unmated but she would remain mentally linked to
them and marked forever. They didn’t however have very long to decide, the machines were rather insistently suggesting the struggle she was going through and Marie was starting to look transparent with the effort she was putting in to trying to get some sort of layer of skin to form. Something was going to give and it was going to happen very soon if someone didn’t do something.
The Alphas looked expectantly at their parents, who after a quick glance with each other, nodded to their sons. They hoped this was the right decision, the trio already had so much to deal with, without this being an issue too but they had promised to do everything in their power to help her and this was within their power to allow it to happen. The doctors and Marie averted their eyes and focussed on their tasks as the boys lowered their heads to either side of her neck. It wasn’t that the act of marking was particularly sexual
or rude but it is quite an intimate gesture to mark your Mate and not something most wolves would choose to do in front of their parents and estranged grandma but it was very much needed.
From the spots the boys had bitten colour flooded her body, where before she had been looking pale almost grey, she now looked healthier, a slight pink to her cheeks. The magic seemed to have benefitted from it too in intensity and speed. They all watched as silver and blue sparks crossed and switched and crossed again over her skin, it looked like the most complex cross-stitch design but since the bite everything seemed to have doubled in number and speed. A very thin, translucent sheet of skin was now appearing under the magic. It looked like the combined efforts of Marie and the strength of the mark were combining to
heal her, combining forces to give her a fighting chance of surviving this. Slowly the heart and blood pressure monitors started to settle down. Both Rogan and Rio
had already noticed the chances in her body, now that they had marked her they had a deeper connection with her, her feelings and her body's reaction felt more acute to them. They held onto her hands tightly feeling for any changes or any indication that things were
going south but none came, minute by minute the skin layers were thickening, becoming fuller and healthier, she had stopped pouring blood and her body seemed to be under less pressure, struggling less and less and the seconds crept on. Melissa surveyed the scene, soaking in the joy she felt from her boys as she pretended to be tracking the machines which had all but returned to normal. She looked critically at the skin
which still looked shockingly fresh but it looked infinitely better than what had been there when the silver first melted off. Melissa was just starting to breath out her relief when her eyes fell on her mother, the star of the show and their little Lunas saviour but what she saw
made her gasp. She ran, faster than any human from one side of the bed to the other as her mum fell backwards.
“Ma”
Lissa whispered as her mother lay in her arms, Marcus was instantly by Lissa’s side holding Marie’s hand as the twins watched on in shock.
“Did we save her?”
Marie asked as her voice wavered
“Yes mama, she looks like she is going to be fine”
“Just rest Marie, you did marvellously”
Marcus tried to soothe the woman but being doctors and wolves meant that they could hear what was going on inside her and as much as they wanted to they knew there was nothing they could do about what was about to happen. Lissa held her mother tightly, whispering her love for her over and over, Marie chuckled softly as she returned the sentiment. Lissa quietly wept as her mother, always so strong and in
control, slowly drifted into her last sleep. Marcus called over Doctor Coupson to declare time of death and the young doctor volunteered to transport Marie to where Marcus told him to take her body. Marcus held his wife tight to him as he looked at his boys. They were all too stunned to speak or properly react to what they had just seen. Marcus spoke to the room at large but mainly he was hoping to give some crumbs of comfort
to his wife but mainly to himself, he had asked Marie to do this, made Lissa ask her to do what would amount to the last thing Marie would ever do.
“She knew what she was getting into and she knew the risks, possibly understood the consequences better than we did, she did it for us, all of us, for how much she loves us all”
