I felt the warm light beams from the sun shining through my windows onto my face. Right. Today was the day of the royal ball. I sat up and yawned in my bed. Right before there was a knock at the door. I cleared my throat softly and spoke. “ Come in.” Ah, it was one of my father’s servants. Yu Takeyama. She looked at me with a smile as she stepped towards my bed with my breakfast on a silver platter. “ Here’s your breakfast, prince Asahi.” I chuckled as I took the platter and put it on my lap. “ Thank you, Takeyama. Tho, you don’t need to refer to me as ‘prince’ all the time. Just my name is fine.” I said in a gentle tone. She nodded before leaving my room silently. I looked down at the food on my lap. I didn’t really feel like eating, but if I didn’t my father would end me. Plus, I would need the energy for the ball.

After I had eaten, I got dressed and went downstairs. I walked through the long halls to the ballroom where people had already begun fixing. While the maids and servants were fixing in the ballroom, the chefs and bakers were busy making food and sweets. I walked out of the ballroom, upstairs to my father’s throne room. I knocked before opening the door. As I could’ve guessed, he was busy talking with the nobilites and our advisors. I quietly closed the door. As I did, I felt a light tap on my shoulder and heard someone clear their throat. I turned around and saw my private lesson teacher, who was also my father’s closest friend- Shinya Kamihara. “ Your class begins soon, Prince.” He spoke in his usual calm and serious tone. I nodded and gave him a light smile. He nodded as well before he began walking to the classroom, where I was not far behind.

After three hours of class, I was free to do my own studies for a while. Personally, I was really into astronomy since my mother was as well when she was alive. She used to yap my ears off about astronomy, but I didn’t mind it. Today, It was actually also the same day my mother had been murdered, 10 years ago. I sighed before walking to my room. When I got there, I walked over to my desk and sat down. I picked up my astronomy book that laid open on the desk and began reading and taking notes sometimes.

Now, at 6 pm, it was time for the ball to start. A lot of people had already gotten here. I was standing in a corner of the ballroom when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked over to my side and noticed my father. He looked at me before he looked out over the guests and spoke. “ I wonder when the barbarians arrive.” I looked at him and raised an eyebrow. The barbarians?..
