Sophia placed her books and purse on the entrance table, finally arriving home.
The day had been... full. From museum tours in the morning, a meeting before lunch, workshops in the afternoon. Finding time to finally create what she wanted was hard, these days. It wasn't as if she wasn't doing things she didn't like. She loved her job, truly. She maybe just had to organize herself to be able to create her own works.
Her phone rang, the sound muffled within the confinement of her purse.
"Hello?"
"Hey... How are you, mia fiore?"
The soft voice of her mother was always a breath of fresh air. It always brought her comfort, especially these days, when she was so tired. And all she wanted was a hug. And maybe some of her mother's gnocchi would be good too.
"I'm alright. Just got home."
"This late? Were you alone?" Her mother said, instantly filling her voice with concern, and Sophia just knew her mother was now frowning and grabbing her single pearl necklace.
"Don't worry, I was with Taehyung and two other friends. Tae brought me home."
"Oh, good, good. I really don't know why you insist on keeping Taehyung just a friend, Sophia, he likes you a lot! And he is such a good man."
Ah, there it was! Because Mrs Giorgia Lee's life goal was to see Sophia married... and giving her grandkids. Those were the top priority.
And Sophia couldn't really blame the woman, Giorgia was very much a family person. Like most Italians, really, she took pride in gathering the massive family in her villa, in Sicily, and simply cooking for everyone. Sophia's nonna was still making pasta at 85, so one could only guess that to be Giorgia's dream. To be a nonna who cooks for the whole family.
Well, she wasn't even sure if she wanted to be in a relationship, much less be pregnant within said relationship. And, truth be told, Sophia was indeed living the life she wanted.
She had been able to study in the best art school of Florence, started making her own exhibits by 22, had the opportunity to start exhibiting all over Europe and then moved to South Korea to start exhibiting and teaching at the National Museum of Seoul. She had even taken a minor in Greek Folklore not so long ago, to help with her knowledge of Greek Mythology. A theme the Museum was always bringing back. It was only fitting she knew her stuff when touring people. So, really, career wise, she was doing just fine and dandy.
Sophia glanced around her apartment... Yes, she was doing great.
Her apartment was paid off, as well. Even if her father had the money to pay for a better, larger, one, with all the modern stuff. She had been able to pay for her stuff with her own money from selling her art, from working her butt dry, and from getting sponsors to be able to do her work just fine.
"Well, Taehyung has someone he has feelings for, and I am doing my best to get those two together, because I love the two of them. Also, yes, Taehyung is an amazing man." Sophia said, getting rid of her shoes and moving to go to the sunroom, where her books and paints, brushes and canvases were.
Her apartment was classic, in an older apartment building that seemed out of place in modern Seoul, with its Victorian flourishes. It was filled with vintage furniture that she loved and had hand picked. There were books, paintings that she adored dearly, some were her own, others were copies of the masters'.
But her favorite space had always been the sunroom. It was where she painted, where she would create little prototypes for her sculptures. Her little safe haven.
