"You're early." Mia greeted Jean who came into her view as soon as she opened the front doors of her house. It was 2 hours before sunset, Jean had waited for her in a black pants and white dress-shirt along with the new ODM gears on his side. Her eyes trailed at the wires and mechanics on it with amazement."Wait, these look different from the ones I usually saw on Garrison soldiers.". She pointed.
Jean smiled at her attentiveness, "Yeah, these are newly designed ODM gears. I figured it's lighter than the older ones."
Mia rushed to help him carry the gears as both of them walked further away from the town, towards a vast field near the Wall. Once they settled at a perfect spot underneath a tree, he folded his sleeves up to his elbow and clicked the metal pieces around his shoulders and back, tightening the strap on his chest. The white dress-shirt with a few unbuttoned collar exposing his collarbones, pressed on his muscular chest. He ran a hand through his messy mullet hair before sensing a stare from his peripheral vision and glanced at the source.
She didn't realise that she had been staring until his eyes caught her. Immediately, her breath hitched as she turned to her ODM gears and pretended to unbuckle the metal pieces and straps.
"Like what you see?" Jean teased, knowing that she totally did enjoy the view of his lean figure. Mia decided to give a bold response, for the sake of seeing his reaction.
"And what if I do?" She made her voice sultry as possible, meeting his surprised expression.
Jean wasn't expecting her reply, it seems that his cockiness had backfired since most of the time, she would hide away her face or change topics and a sense of satisfaction would engulf him. He scoffed and approached her as she struggled with the pieces.
"Come on, let me help." He started after inserting a gas can on his back. She lended him her ODM gear to let him unclasp the metals correctly, before nodding at him when he asked permission to touch her.
Mia's heart beat felt like she had finished a lap of running as soon as his arms went around her back as he leaned in, her head almost touching his upper chest. His musky cologne seeped through her nostrils, engulfing her senses with a vanilla firewood smell. The stubbles on his jawline became visible on her line of sight as her eyes trailed from his neck up until his light-brown irises, which remained focused on the gear. His long fingers moving swiftly with no flaws.
A shiver ran through her spine from his fingers grazing around her waist as he strapped the ODM gear. Jean left the straps on her chest untouched, not wanting to evade her boundaries, to which she clasped them herself.
Mia let out a breath that she unconsciously held for quite a while. Then, Jean turned towards a gas can, lifting it up with one hand and walking around her. Not long after, she felt a weight on her back that made her figure sway backwards before leaning on a solid chest. Her breath hitched as a pair of strong arms held her elbows securely from behind.
"Is this okay? or too heavy?" Jean whispered, she felt his breath tickling on the back of her neck, sending another wave of shiver on her spine.
"Wait, I'll try standing up." She quivered. He smirked after sensing her nervousness around him. Jean knew of his effect on her.
Mia shifted her weight to her foot, moving away from his arms that were still held up even after she had moved away, preparing itself to catch her just in case the weight became unbearable for her.
After a while, she stabilised her body. "This isn't too bad, quite heavy but I can carry it." A gleeful smile decorated her face.
"Yeah, you haven't tried the old ODM gear with those long ass blade holders. Back in my cadet days, we had to hike a mountain with those on our backs to get ourselves used to the weight." Jean recalled while checking the triggers.
