Chapter 7

"We leave for Marley in 5 days. I want to make sure everything is perfectly planned. Supplies and extra gears will be moved to one of Azumabito's warehouses on Marley's port. Keep an eye out for Eren and whatever you do, do not draw attention towards yourselves." Hange laid out the plans in front of the squad along with a few other Survey Corps members.

"According to Eren's letters, he's planning to provoke the War Hammer Titan. We don't have any information about its abilities, so please be safe and let Eren engage in the fight. Also, Marley as we know is occupied with advanced weapons, that's where our bulletproof vests will come in handy." Armin added.

Jean listened while shifting his fingers underneath the desk. He couldn't help the anxious feeling building up his nerves at the thought of letting Mia know about his upcoming mission. He has to let her know, leaving without her knowing would only lead to pain for both of them.

Nightfall came as the meeting ended. He rushed out of the room and set foot to Mia's house, still in his Survey Corps dark green uniform. He might end up walking back to Survey Corps with a broken heart, but whatever happens, she needs to know.

Jean breathed in before knocking at her door. After a few seconds, he heard footsteps approaching before the door opened, revealing the figure that he had been dying to see.

"Jean.." Mia called out. She was wearing a white dress with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders, probably to keep the cold away. Her doe eyes stared into his light-brown ones with concern. His knees became weak at the sight of her divinely sculptured face gleaming from the moon, taking his breath away. Before she could continue, Jean desperately asked.

"Mia, there's something I need to tell you. But first, is there anyone home with you? We need to speak in private."

She wasted no time, dragging his arms inside her house and pushing him upstairs. Her mother had fallen asleep so they had to be as quiet as possible. His tall figure stumbled in a bedroom and a lock on the door was heard by him as his eyes wandered around.

A bookshelf occupied by tons of books came into his sight along with papers scattered across a wall. Cuts from newspapers with a headline, 'SURVEY CORPS DISCOVERY OF THE BASEMENT: MARLEY AND ELDIANS?' caught his eyes. A thick book containing history of the Walls layed openly, with its pages marked.

Then, his eyes landed on a familiar green cape with the Wings of Freedom logo slapped on top of it on her chair. Jean began to hesitate about letting her know his feelings, thinking that the cape belonged to another Survey Corps officer who probably took her heart before he could.

"I'm sorry, it's a bit of a mess. We're not in a safe place yet though, follow me." Mia commanded as she opened her windows and climbed the stairs to her rooftop. The light-brown haired man followed her from behind.

Once they've reached her escape spot, both of them settled and stared at the view of the warmly lit town surrounded by high walls.

"Mia, there's something that I want to tell you." Jean started.

She stared at him with a questioning look, waiting for what he had to say.

Jean took a deep breath, "In 5 days, I have to leave for Marley with the Squad. We're planning to bring back Eren." His heart beat pounded at her possible response as he gazed intensely.

"You're leaving for one of your Survey Corps duties?" She asked. Her eyes laced with gentleness and no signs of despair. Jean nodded and took it as a sign to continue, before she added.

"Okay..? That's a good thing. You'll come back, right? It's not like this is the last time we ever meet each other." A smile crawled its way to her face.
