The sound of birds chirping echoed through her ears. Mia fluttered her eyes open and felt a strong arm wrapped around her waist from behind. Heat radiated off of a figure laying next to her as she shifted her body to face him, stirring him awake. Her tired eyes met his as they both shared a warm smile, like a happy married couple.

"Good morning." He greeted her with his husky morning voice and his eyes still closed as he felt a finger tracing his bare muscular chest. His light-brown mullet hair was a mess and so was her inky-black hair.

"Morning." She replied and placed her palm on his cheeks before rubbing circles with her thumbs, tracing the stubbles on his jawline.

He pulled her bare body closer to his and kissed the top of her head. They stayed like that for half an hour, in silence. Enjoying each other's company before he broke the silence with a question that has been lingering in his mind ever since his eyes landed on a green cape with the Wings of Freedom that wasn't his.

"Mia." He whispered in her hair. The girl cranked her head upwards, glancing at his light-brown eyes and his lips with a questioning look.

"Did you.." He hesitated, before continuing.

"..have someone in your mind before sleeping in the same bed with me?"

She was taken aback at his question as she brought her figure upwards and leaned on her prompted elbow with the blanket still covering her.

"What do you mean? Did you think I'm a prostitute who likes to sleep around for one night?" Overthinked thoughts took over Mia as her eyes laced with concern.

"No, no, love. That's not what I'm trying to say," Jean sat up panickedly and caressed his finger on her cheeks, holding her as if she would run away from his misworded question. She tried to hide her blush at the way he called her unconsciously.

"It's just, Whose cape is that?" Jean decided to straightforwardly ask her, bracing himself for whatever answer she would give and continued,

"I don't remember giving you the Survey Corps cape." His voice was evident with concern and a hint of sadness.

Mia turned her head from the cape to him, meeting his light-brown eyes. A smile slowly creeping up her face that made the man in front of her melt with adoration.

"Come lay with me." She laid on her side of the bed and opened her arms, to which Jean leaned on her warm figure, placing his head on the crook of her neck as she wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders. Intense strawberry smell filled his nostrils that he couldn't help but to suffocate himself with it.

"That cape belonged to my father." As soon as those words left, Jean lifted his head with his eyes widened as he looked at her.

"Your father was a Survey Corps officer?"

She nodded and pulled him back to her as her fingers ran through his soft hair. Jean loved every single moment of it, the feeling of her delicate fingers tugging his mullet and the serene sound of her voice telling stories about her life.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Well, he died a long time ago, when I was young. Perhaps you haven't joined the Military yet. I guess telling you about him would be a waste since you don't know him,"

"What was he like?"

"Dad was a curious one, he joined the Survey Corps because he had hope that humanity exists beyond the Walls. Familiar with the idea?"

Jean hitched his breath, his eyes yet again widened.

"Your dad was Commander Erwin?"

After a long pause with no answer, Jean jolted upwards with his mouth slightly parted. Mia covered her mouth and let out a stifled laugh.
