Cynthia was left speechless as Flint had just hung up on her. She puffed her cheeks in frustration as she walked in circles waiting for the challenger who had initiated protocol.

Who was this trainer and how were they able to gain the approval of the Elite Four?

Cynthia gripped her head as she grew agitated with clouded thoughts. Yes, Cynthia remembered the protocol Flint had spoken of since she was the one who made it. Although she never admitted it, she had made it for a specific person.

It was her way of showing them that if they had returned, she would have them face her properly as she would beat some sense into them for leaving her in the dark.

"Why aren't I getting any information about the challenger?" Cynthia said, refreshing her tablet, "Is this some kind of joke?"

Normally, Cynthia would receive information from challengers who had entered showing her their personal information and party of Pokémon. This challenger was somehow messing with the system or the Elite Four members, mostly Flint, were messing with her.

Did she give them too much work? No. She barely gave them more work than what they already had. Was it a member of someone like Team Galactic trying to take her down? They have been quiet for years so maybe they were making their move?

"Um... Hello? I'm here to challenge the Champion. Is now not a good time?" a voice spoke, gaining the girl's attention.

Cynthia quickly composed herself. The challenger in front of her was a tall man who looked about her age. There was a distance so she couldn't exactly see his features, only his face mask and eyes could be seen. She examined his stance as it gave her a mysterious yet familiar feeling. This was important since she needed to take care of the individual if he posed a threat.

Cynthia cleared her throat. "You must be quite the challenger to initiate protocol albeit a bit skeptical. Nevertheless, you are the first. I should congratulate you."

The man slightly bowed his head. "Thank you, Miss Champion. I have to say, I was quite surprised to hear about the protocol. It was nonexistent last time I was here."

"So you've challenged before?" Cynthia asked intrigued by his words, "To think I would have remembered such a formidable trainer."

"Well, it was a long time ago," the man spoke as he lifted his Pokéball.

"I hope you're prepared to face me," Cynthia mimicked the man.

"Naturally. I plan to give it my all."

"Then let's get this battle started."

"Before we start, may I make a request?"

"A request?" Cynthia thought for a moment before letting the man continue.

"I propose a one-on-one match."

Cynthia was dazed at his comment. "This guy can't be serious? Do you believe you can beat me that easily? I admire your confidence but too much of it can be foolish."

"Hey! I thought this through alright? This could also make my only chance of winning higher. Plus, I'm sure you don't want to sit through a boring battle?"

Both stood in silence as they stared each other down. It was a sound of laughter that escaped the Champion's mouth and broke their silence.

"I'm sorry for my sudden outburst," Cynthia said, wiping a tear, "Very well, as a reward for being the first to initiate protocol and making me able to laugh again in years, I'll humor your request."
