John sighed as he walked out of his psychologist's office.

''Of course I'm cursed with depression...'' He muttered to himself as he made his way down the steps and out the front door of the building.

He stopped right at the front to fish up his phone and text Alexander, as they had planned to meet up at a cafe.

''You're coming, right?''

Read a text from Alexander.

John sighed. Of course Alex was anxious and overthought whether or not John was coming.

''I'm on my way right now, Lexi.''

He typed quickly and sent it.

John started making his way down the street towards one of the local cafes, his favorite cafe; Peg's cakes. A mutual friend, Margarita ''Peggy'' Schuyler, owned it - John and Alexander always got to eat for free, so that was pretty nice, he thought.

"Thanks for orderi-"

Alexander started but got cut off by John.

"It's really nothing, man. I'm glad to do it if it prevents you from getting an anxiety attack or whatever." He smiled.

Alexander furrowed his brows as he looked at John's smile. It wasn't his usual, warm and happy smile that resembled the summer feeling you have when you run across a field full of a flowers with your lover... No, this was something else.

Alexander was interrupted in his thoughts by John's voice, latched with concern.

"You good?" He asked carefully.

Alexander looked up at John and hesitated to speak for but only a second to process what had happened before speaking slowly to adress his own concerns.

"Yeah... Yeah, I'm good..."

Alexander started.

"Are you, though? Your smile seemed off-"

He paused midsentence, rethinking his recently said words before rephrasing.

"I mean, your smile seemed more sad than happy. And I am not overthinking, alright? I know when my best friend is upset."

John looked at Alexander for some seconds before dropping his fixated gaze on him and looking down at his milkshake, stirring it with his straw.

"I got..."
