Enya stepped out of the aircraft; she had finally arrived at LaGuardia Airport. After gathering all her possessions and getting through security, she finally sees her childhood best friend, Sofia.
Sofia had been Enya's best friend for over a decade, literally growing up together until Enya had to move due to her parent's work. "ENYA!" Sofia yelled, running towards her. Luckily, Enya had prepared herself for what would happen next.
Before she could reply, Enya was tackled to the ground. "How are you so fast?" She asked, "Years of track meets and skill," Sofia said, giving her a smug look. Enya rolled her eyes and smiled. "Thanks for picking me up, by the way." Enya said, "Anytime, I've missed you so much." Sofia replied, embracing Enya in a bear hug as if she would disappear into thin air if she let go.
They stayed like that until Sofia's phone started ringing. "I need to take this, sorry," Sofia said, giving her an apologetic smile. While Sofia talked on the phone, Enya took in her new surroundings. 'This is going to be interesting', she thought to herself.
"Alrighty, ready to finally get out of here?" She heard Sofia say, "Yeah, honestly, I don't know how people get around with so many people in one place." Enya replied. Afterward, they put the luggage in the car and started the drive. Sofia put on some music and sang along, while Enya just looked out her window.
"You know, you don't look too excited to be here," Sofia said, surprising Enya. "I am; it's just that I don't know what to expect; it's kind of scary," Enya replied, and Sofia gave her a knowing look. "And it was my parents' idea, of course." Sofia only gave a 'hmm' as a reply, as she was busy looking at the car in front of her.
After a while, they reached Enya's new apartment. Sure, it wasn't the fanciest place, but it was somewhere she could stay. "Just know that if you ever get uncomfortable here, you can always stay at my house." Sofia offered. "Nah, I think I can handle this," Enya said jokingly. "Come on, let's go get my keys, and we can check it out." She continued, giving Sofia a hopeful smile.
Getting her keys wasn't difficult, aside from arguing with the owner about her identity. "I swear, who does she think she is, telling me I'm not myself?" Enya complained, mocking the lady. "I know, right, some people just don't have any class." Sofia agreed. They walked up the stairs leading to her apartment and opened the door.
It seemed like a rather cozy place, aside from the dust and clutter on the floor. "They don't clean the apartments after previous residents leave," Enya commented, scrunching her nose.
"Do you mind helping me tidy this place up?" Enya asked, "Sorry, I can't; I have to go home, make dinner and put Harmony to sleep." Sofia said. Harmony was Sophia's daughter, a young and sweet little girl. "I get it," Enya said, hugging Sofia goodbye.
"Good luck with your apartment; I'll see you tomorrow at work, okay?" Sofia said, waving. "Yep, see you," Enya replied, closing the door.
'Great, I thought I would at least get information before she decided to run off' Enya signed, grabbing her luggage, which they had taken out of the car after getting her keys. Opening the door to her new bedroom, the walls were white and bare; cobwebs were found in the upper corners, and nothing but a singular bed occupied space in the room.
Placing her luggage in the closet, she collapsed onto the bed, staring at the ceiling until eventually falling asleep. In the morning, she felt horrible, like being run over by a bus—kind of horrible. Getting ready, she made a mental checklist of things she needed for her apartment. After realizing she had forgotten to lock her door the day before, she walked out and continued until she arrived at the bus stop. Sofia had mentioned it days before her flight.
She didn't have to wait long, considering she had woken up later than intended, but she didn't mind. Finally, arriving at her destination, she walked through the sliding doors towards reception. "G'morning, Enya," Sofia said cheerfully.
"Why are you so dreadfully happy in the morning?" Enya groaned, giving her a look of disgust. Sofia just giggled. "The boss wants to see you; by the way, you're late," Sofia said, and Enya just gave her a thumbs up, walking away. And since she was never given a tour, she came back, asking Sophia for directions to where her boss's office was.
After getting directions, Enya made her way there, just before bumping into something—or someone. "Hey! Watch where you are going!" said the person. As Enya got up, she took in the person's appearance; it was a guy with blonde hair and green eyes, and he was on the tall side considering she had to look up at him.
Enya didn't even reply, just giving the guy a rude look and huffing, continuing on her way. "Rude," she said under her breath, loud enough for the guy to hear. The guy just rolled his eyes, and they both went their separate ways. Finally finding the boss's office, she knocked, hearing a faint "come in" as a response.
Opening the door, she was greeted by an elderly man who seemed to be in his 50s: "I'm sorry I was late, sir; I had just arrived yesterday." Enya apologized. "Don't worry about that, dear; my name is Melbourne Miracle, and you are?" The man, now identified as Mr. Miracle, asked with a raised eyebrow. "My name is Enya Kanumba. It's nice to meet you, sir." Enya replied, "Please take a seat," stated Mr. Miracle.
Nothing eventful had happened besides talking about what she would be doing while she was employed at this company and soon saying her goodbyes. "I will be sure to be on time tomorrow to start my first day. Have a good day, sir." Enya said, "You as well, Miss Kanumba." Mr. Miracle replied with a wide smile. 'This was going to be harder than I thought,' Enya thought to herself.
