Chapter 8 'New Ally'

I walk in the forest to find even one thing that we could eat. But there's not even a small bird. I hear footsteps. I quickly climb in the biggest tree I can find where I can hide good. When I was just hidden I saw who it was. It was the careers. Sophia walked in front of the group scared. Zayn and Lilith were constantly whispering to each other and Chris had a creepy grin on his face. I didn't like how they acted.

"I'm tired, can we pause for a while" Sophia said

"No, They were definitely here. Just find them you piece of s-." Lilith couldn't finish her sentence because Zayn whispered something in her ear. She nodded and so did Chris. Suddenly Zayn pulls out a sword. Sophia looks at him confused..

"Why did you grab your sword? They are not here." Sophia was scared but tried to hide it.

"Were sorry Sophia, but only one can win." Chris said. Zayn used the sword to impale Sophia's leg, He took the sword out and Sophia was bleeding a lot. She fell down against a tree. She breathed heavy and was clearly panicking.

"I hope you die slowly and painfully." Lilith said. Laughing evilly and then running away with the others. When I was 100% sure the Careers were gone I climbed down and went to Sophia.

"Hey, I'm Valarie. I want to help you. Will you let me take you somewhere safe?"

"I-I'm Sophia, I'm s-cared. " She said

"I know, I know. I won't hurt you. Want to go? " Sophia nodded so I picked her up and walked with her towards the cave.

I entered the cave and laid Sophia down. Liam saw her leg and immediately activated his medical mind.

"What happened?" He asked me.

"This is Sophia from district 1, she was stabbed in her leg by Lilith." Liam looked at Sophia's leg. It was bleeding a lot. A small puddle of blood had already formed on the ground.

Liam didn't waste a second. He ripped a strip from his shirt and tightly tied it around Sophia's leg just above the wound.

"She can't walk, but this will stop her from completely bleeding out." Liam said. Sophia looked at him

"You're cute." She suddenly said. She closed her eyes after saying it. Liam blushed.

"Is she dead?" Elena asked.

"No she was tired, she fell asleep." Liam said. "No cannon, she is still breathing."

Suddenly we all hear a weird sound. Liam seems to recognize the sound and sprints out of the cave.

About a minute later he comes back in happy with something In his hand.

"We got a sponsor!!" Liam said almost jumping from joy.

He opened the tin he walked in with and a small letter fell out.

"It had some bandages. To take care of Sophia's wound." Liam said.

"Well because Val failed to get us food it is now officially my turn. So I will get us some food." Elena said. Did she really just call me Val? I really like it when she calls me that. Elena walked out of the cave with her spear. I hope she will be alright.

"I can use these bandages to cover the wound, that will stop infections from getting in." Liam said.

He wrapped the bandages around Sophia's wound. The wound was now all covered up.

Liam yawned. He was tired.

"Do you want to sleep? " I looked at Liam's tired eyes.

"Yeah. My eyes hurt." He said.

"I'll watch over you two." Liam smiled and laid down next to Sophia. He closed his eyes and not much later I heard him snoring softly. After a while Elena came back.

"We have to go to the cornucopia, I think that's where they keep the food." Elena said.

"Let's go there together." I try to wake up Liam.

"Huh?" Liam said half awake.

"Val & me are going to see it the cornucopia has food, you and Sophia stay here." Elena said.

Liam nodded and closed his eyes again. Elena and I walked back out of the cave with our Weapons, I had my axe and a few knives in my pocket, one in my sock for if I can't get to my pocket. Elena had her spear. It was quite a long walk to the cornucopia, but we had made it. There was a lot of food in the cornucopia, Apples, berries, even some uncooked meat. Elena grabbed an empty bag and we put in as much food as we could. The bag was full so we walked back. About halfway on the route we heard a cannon. I stopped. Elena looked at me. I was worried.

"What if it's Liam?" Elena saw how worried I was.

"Let's find out if it was" Elena said and she started running, I ran after her. We ran super-fast and I almost fell twice. We finally arrived in the cave and I saw Liam holding Sophia. She was not breathing. Liam was crying.

"She- she untied the fabric and lost all her blood." Liam could barely even say it because his voice was trembling. "She said she loved me from the moment she first saw me. I- I liked her too. She k-kissed me on the cheek. I went away for a m-minute to pee and I found her like this. W-we could have been star-crossed lovers. But she chose to take it to the g-grave... I can't live without her, I-I'm s-sorry Valarie." When he said he's sorry I saw the knife in his heart.

"No Liam." I cried realizing he tried to kill himself for a girl. "No Liam you're going to stay with me."

"Sorry" His hand was shaking while he grabbed the handle of the knife and pulled it out. I just stood there while he died. I couldn't move. The cannon made me flinch. I couldn't believe it. My friend, my ally. He died in front of my eyes. And I watched it happen. I just fell on the ground sobbing. Trying to process what just happened. Elena hugged me in an attempt to comfort me, but it didn't work. I just couldn't stop crying.

"I was going to die for him.. But he.. he.." I couldn't even say the word kill.

"I know Val, I know... " Elena said with her soft voice. It was calming. "But we got to move on. We have to let the capitol know we're more than a piece in their stupid fucking games."

I fell asleep in Elena's arms.

How are you guys doing? I've been doing great recently. A few days ago i finished watching The Good Doctor. I loved the show and it really was worth watching.

I remember when i wrote this chapter i was almost crying because i just found it so sad. Maybe this chapter doesn't really make sense to some of you but i will rewrite it once, i don't know when but i promise i will. What do you guys think about Valarie & Elena as a ship? I really like it. Have any idea's for shipnames? The only thing that came to my mind was Valena and i'm not sure if i like the name or not.
