I didn't confront Drew about what Sam told me when I saw him. I was going to, but I refrained from raining hell on him.
I thought maybe Sam was lying, but something told me he wasn't. As much as I trusted Drew, there was just something wrong going on these last few days. I was still hung up on what Sam said about meeting Drew on Friday.
So when I saw Drew the next week, I was just bursting at the seams to confront him. I didn't of course, but the edge was there.
"Are you excited for the function? I know I am," he said, lathering my bread in butter.
"What's it about anyway?" I asked, wondering why Drew was this excited. He usually was not very thrilled to attend the functions.
"It's in my honour. That's why I wanted you there. My parents have deemed me grown enough to inherit the company."
I coughed, shocked. "Excuse me?"
He laughed, coming behind me to clap me on the back. "That's what I said too."
I was confused. The Harimots said that Drew would never see the company unless he divorced me. My heart sank at the realisation. I realised that it was easy for me to throw the divorce word around, but when reality crashed, I found that I was terrified.
"I was also shocked. I mean, they pretty much said that unless we divorced, I'm not getting the company. But here we are. They've given up. I know it's not much, but doesn't this show that they have accepted you?"
"Yeah," I breathed out, the relief I felt helping me relax.
"They even asked about you. They wanted to invite you, but I said I've already invited you. You know what this means?"
I shook my head, sighing.
"It means that you can come home. That's what you wanted, right? For my family to accept you. They've done that, so you can come back home."
He looked so innocent and so unbothered with what he has said. I would dare say that he looked proud.
I blinked at the nonsense he just said. At this point, I don't know if he was even aware that he was just annoying me.
Well, at least he was listening to me when I complained that his family did not accept me. He always brushed my concerns aside, so it was nice to know that he listened. As much as I could take Drew's word for it and believe that his family accepted me, I knew I would just be naïve. I was anything but naïve, that's why I knew there was an ulterior motive on their side.
"My love, you know well that I'm not coming home anytime soon. So, don't give yourself unnecessary hope." I was irritated with him.
"It's fine. We will talk about this some other time. For now, eat, my love. And before I forget, your outfit is ready. I'll come by your place so that you can fit it, and we will do adjustments if they're necessary."
I nodded, already foreseeing myself snapping. I didn't want him coming to my apartment, especially when Sam told me about the threat.
"I will come by tomorrow."
