The dreaded day came sooner than I expected. I swear I just slept for an hour and then it was morning. I felt so tired.

For the rest of the day, I kept on worrying about meeting my in-laws after so long of not seeing each other. I worried so much that I didn't do anything the whole day. I just stayed in bed and didn't bother eating. I was not even hungry. I was just nerves.

When I received a call from Drew that he was outside, I realised that all I did was worry to the extent that I fell asleep and lost sense of time. When I checked the time, it was seven.

I quickly got off the bed and took out my suit, then went to start the shower.

When I made sure that everything I needed was laid out on my bed, I ran to open the door for Drew. Let's just say he was not pleased.

"Why are you not dressed?" he asked, frowning.

"I was sleeping. I'll be ready in a bit, I promise," I said, turning around to go and quickly shower.

I finished preparing myself in under fifteen minutes. Drew was still not impressed. He sat on the couch, his right leg folded over the other.

When I came out, I was still buzzing with endless energy as a result of my nerves. Drew's face softened when he saw me. He took me all in, smiling a bit in appreciation. I didn't have time to look at Drew when he came in, but when he stood up, I saw his suit. It was black, and it matched mine. He looked handsome of course.

I net him halfway, then let him hug me.

"You look good, my love."

I laughed, my nerves calming when he was near. "You too."

He kissed my forehead, then let go. His face was full of adoration, and as much as I would have liked to return it, I was fretting.

I think he noticed the way I kept on tapping my feet, but he didn't say anything. "Let's head out? I don't want to be late. You know how my mother is with punctuality."

I groaned. Mrs Harimot had one of the intense glares. As much as I could complain about them treating me differently, they also scared me. I shivered just thinking about my mother-in-law.

Drew laughed, asking, "What's the groan for?"

We were still holding hands when we left my apartment. "I'm thinking about your mother."

"Mmh." That's all he said.

I rolled my eyes, but refrained from saying anything.

I was a bundle of nerves the whole ride. Drew tried to assure me that there was nothing to be nervous about, but I still fretted.

The closer we got to the estate, the more Drew tried to calm me because I kept on rambling about some nonsensical stuff that could happen. Like Isabella humiliating me in front of the guests or Mr Harimot questioning me about our separation.

It was actually not nonsense, but Drew made it feel like it. I knew there was no way I was leaving the function unscathed.

The Harimot estate was secluded. It was the only one around in the forest, and the nearest town was about ten kilometers away.

The estate always gave me the creeps. Although there was the main house that was a mansion, and smaller houses on the sides that I still didn't know what they housed, the place was lonely. I always got the feeling that there were a number of people that lived there than the Harimot family.

Drew once joked that in the coming future, the two of us were going to stay with his family. I hoped it was a joke because there was no way I was subjecting myself to being around the Harimots 24/7.

The gates were opened, and Drew drove in. The amount of cars around the yard were overwhelming.

"How many people are supposed to be here?" I asked, frowning. I thought this was a small event.

"Around hundred. No one could miss this event." He chuckled after saying that.

I fiddled with my hands, feeling like tiny ants were crawling on my skin. I didn't realise that I would be overwhelmed by the number of people present. I just hoped that at least the Harimots would be cordial and not humiliate me in front of the guests.

Drew got out of the car, and before I could open my door, he was already doing that. I laughed lightly, shaking my head. "What are you doing?"

Drew gave me a cheeky smile before kissing my forehead and holding my hand. "It's called chivalry."

"But you've never opened my car door for me," I reminded him.

"Well, there's a first time for everything. But I remember you clearly telling me that you didn't want me to open the door for you or anything of the sort."

I lightly pushed him, shaking my head in amusement.

My nerves were alleviated, but I knew it wouldn't be for long. On the entrance of the mansion, there were two butlers, Malin and Ross. They were kind to me, but I knew they were loyal to the Harimots.

They both bowed a bit at us, well, Drew to be specific. The Harimots lived like they were still in medieval times. I think in their past lives, they were lords, dukes or something. Or maybe they were descendants of lords or dukes. When I told Drew about that, he just looked at me weirdly and just shook his head.

The foyer was empty, and I wondered where everyone was. I'm sure we were bound to run into someone who wandered a bit too far from the ballroom.

Drew led me to a secluded staircase where it was a bit far from the ballroom. I wanted to ask why we were going there instead of the ballroom, but I figured he had a good reason why we didn't go there first.

There was some sort of urgency in the way he held my hand and hurried up the stairs. I didn't have time to complain or ask questions. I realised that we were going to his suite.

When we arrived to his door, he opened the door and let go of my hand, then checked to see if there was no one. I was confused.

"What's wrong?" I asked, my heart sinking at the worried look Drew plastered on his face.

His eyes looked at me, then he came to put his hands on my shoulders. "My love, there's something I need to attend to. Don't leave this room. When I leave, lock the door and don't open for no one."

I gulped, nodding.

"Don't open this door, alright? Promise me."

I nodded again, saying, "I promise. But what's going on?"

"I will explain when I come back. For now, don't go out of my room. Are we clear?"

My heart went crazy, wondering what's going on.

Drew shook me. "Are we clear?"

"Yes, yes. But what about you? Whatever is going on there could be dangerous. Let's wait together here."

"It's not dangerous for me. It's for you. If you go out this door without my permission, I'm afraid you won't make it past the staircase. You understand, right?"

I didn't know if he was trying to scare me or what, but he succeeded. I nodded.

"I'll be back, my love. I just need to make sure that everything is safe for you. I'm afraid my parents didn't listen to my instructions."

There was a glint in his eyes when he talked about his parents. He felt like a whole different person the way he acted.

His kiss on my forehead felt cold. I shivered, stepping away from his short embrace. He looked at me, his attention making me uncomfortable.

I gestured to the door. "You can go. I'll wait for you."

He ran a hand through his hair, then turned around. I didn't move.

When he opened the door, he turned around. "Come lock the door."

I nodded, hurrying to the door. When he left, I locked it. I didn't realise how fucking terrified I was. I slid down the door, not caring about creasing my suit. I didn't feel safe.

Even in Drew's arms, I didn't feel safe.
