Chapter 3 - The Seraphim's Mission

“Destiny, are you alright?”

I jerked my face from my desk and saw Mariah giving me a worried look. Obviously, I wasn’t well-groom for this day since, I haven’t put any make-up on my face. I only applied concealer on my face to cover up the bags under my eyes. I was having difficult time in sleeping thinking over my encounter with an angel.

Seraphim, the six-winged angel.

That was what he told me, then continued to explain any further clarifications. I listened to him intently as if I was amazed with his story. By the time he was finished, he told me that he need my assistance with his mission in search for the lost Something-Whatever-Box. I never answered him, since I immediately left the the garden and ran upstairs to my room. I heard him calling my name but I just ignored him by the time I locked myself inside my room.

I yawned. “I overstudied yesterday, and didn’t notice it was already five in the morning,” I lied, which I feel guilty not telling my bestfriend the truth.

“You shouldn’t have done that to yourself,” she scolded me, while giving me a hug. “You know that you are one of the best top outstanding student in school. You should take care of your health, not abuse it.”

I smiled at her tone. When it comes to my health, or anyone else, she’s always worried. She was even the reason that made me force to love eating vegetables and fruits. I’ll tell you a secret, I was never fond of eating those food before I met Mariah. Dad says she was a good influence to me, which I strongly scoffed but secretly agreed in my mind.

“Yeah, I’ll keep that on my mind,” I replied before I let go from her hug.

The bell rings.

That signals that classes begin. The students swiftly went back to their seats and waited as the teacher arrives to discuss another set of lesson.

First class was Calculus.

Mr. Wilkes went inside our classroom bringing along a stock of papers he was carrying. He put his things on the desk before facing us. He was a jolly bald man, with a bulging stomach and wears a rimmed-circular glasses. I could classify him as a nerd especially, with his boring get up but, he was one of the teachers that the students adore. He was the coolest teacher to be with since he always understands everyone’s attitude. Even the delinquents in our school listen to him more than the rest of our teachers.

“Good morning class!” he greeted happily. “Damien, fix your tie properly and Anjun stop doing making gaga faces at Stella,” he scolded playfully. The two boys immediately contained themselves and made a salute sign at him, as if his order was commenced and accomplished.

The whole class just burst out laughing. I was even laughing, despite my poor condition in lack of sleep. Mr. Wilkes just shook his head while chuckling.

“Class, I have something to inform you before there were certain interruptions,” he said while giving a pointed look at both Damien and Anjun. They just shot him a grin before he continued, “We have a new student who’ll be joining our class.”

Everyone’s laughter died upon hearing his announcement. Then hushed whispers began to rise, questioning the identity of the new comer. Who could the new student be? More importantly, he or she was two months late during the start of class.

This person would need a lot of catching up to do if he or she wants to pass. Even within one month, we already have activities, quizzes and long exams. How could one managed to catch up with that?

“Alright, son, you can come in now,” I heard Mr. Wilkes said calling the attention of the new comer

My eyes immediately drifted to the door waiting who the new student is. When the door opened, a boy, who was wearing the school uniform dark blue blazer with red and black striped tie, black pants and shoes, a bag being held over one hand on his shoulder, appeared.
