"So," Jai begins.

"So." Shekar raises his brows.

"You finally gonna admit that you jealous?"

"Ion know whatchu mean."

The bathroom is probably an inappropriate place to have a conversation like this. With Jai in only his underwear and Shekar standing in the shower, completely naked.

"You gon' look me in my eyes and tell me you not jealous?"

"Aight, but what I got to be jealous of?"

"Exactly," Jai stresses.

"That's not a answer, but aye, when you come up with one lemme know. Fo' now, get the fuck out, I'm tryna shower."

"We not done having this conversation."

"This an excuse fo' you to see me naked? All you had to do was ask baby—"

"Don't deflect."

"I'm not jealous Jai," he laughs. "I know you not gon' cheat, cause I know you not tryna become a hashtag."

"See!"

"See what?"

"Jealousy!"

"That's not me being jealous, that's me giving you a warning."

"Whatchu need to warn me for Shey?"

"In case you lose yo fuckin' mind one day, and forget who you fuckin' with. But you would never do that." His smile doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"Ahuh ... yeah." He gives him a once-over, as there was a trace of skepticism in his voice.

"Yeah."

Leaving the bathroom, Jai goes back into his room. Entering, Shekar's phone lights up from its spot on the bed. He moves over to his dresser to take out a change of clothes.

"Where the fuck ... is mah durag?"

Pushing around the clothes, he can't seem to find the one item. And then he remembers that one night Shekar borrowed one the specific one he was looking for when he was too lazy to get his own bonnet. He goes over to the bed, flipping the covers to try and find it. While doing so the lit screen of Shekar's phone catches his attention again. Another notification comes through, and another.

Breathing out, he looks around, despite knowing that Shekar is still taking a shower. Curiosity is the driving force that pulls him over to the device. Raising the screen to his face, it unlocks and he sees four new messages.

Upon opening the texts, his face twists up. The chat read: Shey; Come on; We need to talk.; I still think about you. He's tempted, he wants so bad to message this person back, saying something to piss whoever this is off. But he can't, he doesn't want to fuck up the trust Shekar has in him. He blocks the number and closes the phone and throws it back on the bed, going back to looking for his durag.

His and Jai's conversation never left his head. Standing under the heated stream of water, Shekar kept thinking, he's not a jealous person. He can't be. And if he is, which he's not, then it's not his fault. Besides, it's not like he allowed his insecurities to take hold of him. To his understanding, he hides them pretty well.

And so what if he was slightly jealous of Imani for being on the same team as Jai? Or if he didn't like how touchy she was with him? Or the weird vibe he gets from her? That's normal. And it doesn't matter, at the end of the day he's the one who lies in the same bad as Jai. So no, he wasn't jealous.
