He got away.

How the fuck did he get away, I know he was a skilled fighter. I saw the last of his fight with the solider I killed, I didn't regret killing him, he was a creep anyway. He always tried to get his way with many of the servants in the castle.

But how did he get away, I was right in his heal. He had his hood up and I didn't see much of his face, but I will find him.

And then I will kill him.

I was walking up the path to the castle, ready to go to sleep after this god awful long night. The clock was way passed midnight and I was up for training with the princess the next day.

She couldn't even throw a punch, let alone defend herself.

I nodded at the guards, guarding the entrance when they opened the door. I sighed when I saw the messenger hurrying towards me, I walked towards him and he met me half way.

I gave him a bored look and he scrambled with the papers he was holding, "the king is requesting your presence in his office at the moment" I just nodded and walked away.

I reached the door to his office and nocked, I heard a shuffle of shoes on wood, then the door opened. The worried look on the queens face got me worried. She was never in the kings office, not unless it was really something to worry about.

"Good you're here, Torres" the kings sharp voice hissed my last name in a threatening way, I shifted my gaze to his steel blue eyes. "Find Maveline, now" my face showed no emotion as I opened my mouth.

"What is the reason?" I asked, not commending but not softly, because why would I wake the princess in the middle of the night.

"She isn't in the castle" the king growled at me. I nodded and turned on my heel. I was out of the room in an instant on my way to Maveline's room, I was going to see if she left something to help me find her.

I turned down a narrower hallway and saw her door at the end of it. I pulled open the door before walking inside looking around, her letter jacket she always used was gone, and so was her boots. That must mean she let by her own will.

I turned around heading for the exit now. My pulse was beating loud enough for me to hear it, it was my job mainly to protect her. My job.

I could not lose this job, it was the highest ranking I had and I was the commander of the Guard. I could not let this fuck it up, not in the long run.

I was pushing open the doors to the garden when I spotted a shadow near the forest, it was big and moved swiftly. A wolf.

I jogged towards the forest keeping close to the shadows when I saw her, the princess. She was laying limp on the wolf's back. I swiftly pulled my sword while stifling a gasp. I was nearly at the forest edge when the wolf went completely still. It saw me.

We both was just staring at the other, me with my sword in hand a couple of yards away. The massive wolf with the princess on his back, its eyes flicked to the woods before it sprang. I was right behind it, sheathing my sword and pulling a throwing knife from under my jacket.

I heard the princess shriek, and I let my dagger fly. It hit it's mark, right in the side of the wolf. It did not falter for a moment though, it was getting away. I sprinted even faster and then I was blocked of, three wolfs were surrounding me.

I didn't even notice they where there, not until it was to late at least. I took a breath and pulled out my sword, ready to fight, even if it got me killed.
