Ademide's Pov."Mummy did you perhaps by any chance see my red pant anywhere?" I asked my mum while pacing round the room in search of it .
"Can you not see it is the one I am wearing" My mum replied as a typical African parent.
"Mummy nah!" I whined.
"Will you quit whining, did you see me with any pants, do you not have another one to wear?" She scolded me.
"No, the rest are dirty apart from the red one that I'm looking for". I complained hopelessly.
"Shame on you! As old as you are you do not have any neat pant to wear as a teenager. " She shouted at me while giving me a bombastic side eye and a glare.
"Better wear your skirt like that without any pant, nobody will know unless you plan on exposing your nakedness to the whole congregation" she said while exiting my room.
"I am giving you just 15 minutes to get ready and come downstairs so we can be early to church" she said before finally exiting the room.
"Oh God! Where could this pant be?" I muttered almost in tears.
Giving up on ever finding the pant, I decided to keep all my books that I scattered on the floor into my bag.
Alas! There laid the red pant sleeping peacefully inside my bag.
How the pant got to my bag is what I don't understand, but I am glad I found it.
Quickly, I dressed up and headed downstairs with my phone to meet my mum who was already in the car, warming it up.
Getting into the car, I settled down inside and was expecting her to start driving but instead, she just stayed there looking at me incredulously.
"Don't tell me you are going to church like this ehn young lady?" She questioned me.
"Yes, nah. Please do not tell me to change my clothes o" I grumbled.
" Will you shut up! where's your Bible?" She screamed at me.
" It's on my phone nah!"I exclaimed stating the obvious.
" We are in 2024, who still carries all those big evangelist bible to church?" I chuckled.
" Me, of course!" My mum said defeated.
" Obviously" I muttered sarcastically under my breath with an eye roll.
The hot slaps that landed on my laps next was enough to kill an elephant.
"The fuck!" I yelled while rubbing my laps to ease the pain .
"Emi ni the fuck?( So I am the one you're telling the fuck) She questioned while pinching my stomach and my body all over.
"No ma" I screamed almost in tears.
"Mo ri pe o to baje. (You are so spoilt). I know how to deal with you " she muttered angrily as she snapped her finger at me , then proceeded to start the car.
The rest of the drive was awkward and grave silent. I did not utter another word.
I just kept sobbing and sniffing back my tears and frantically trying to rub of the tears that threatened to fall.
My mum spared occasionally glances at me before finally stopping the car .
"My baby, are you still crying?" She asked worriedly.
"No" I said barely above a whisper at the same time a lone tear dropped on to my laps.
She seemed to see the tears and immediately brought my head to rest stop her breast while rubbing my back soothingly.
