Ayomide's Pov
As we ventured deeper into the streets, the shadows seemed to grow longer and longer and I began to get confused.
I thought that house was the last house on this street, so where on earth are we going to now.
"Be careful," I whispered, guiding Ademide over a jagged pile of debris.
"Lola!" the woman shouted, her voice echoing off the walls and her panic stricken voice returning to her in louder volume.
We turned a corner, and a partially collapsed building loomed before us. The woman rushed toward it, but I caught her arm.
E gbami e Rami! Where are we?
"Wait," I said, my instincts screaming warning. "It's not safe."
But she shook me off, disappearing into the wreckage.
"Ademide, stay close," I whispered, following the woman.
Inside, the air was thick with dust. I coughed, my eyes stinging.
"Lola!" the woman called out again.
A faint cry responded.
"Lola!" She exclaimed, rushing forward.
But as we reached the source of the cry, my heart sank.
Lola was pinned under a massive concrete slab, her leg twisted at an unnatural angle.
As we both looked down to guage the extent of her injury.
We was surprised because the face of Lola was looking familiar. Immediately,my head rang with realization.
Lola is our school mate, we've attended the same school for two years now but we are not on talking term.
Shocked I asked her,"how did you get here?"
"I followed the same letter you followed." She replied.
" This shit is fucking crazy!"I heard Ademide curse behind me.
You know this feeling you have when you know that someone else is with you in a particular place but you just do not know where. That is how I felt.
And indeed we were not alone.
A figure watched from the shadows, eyes gleaming in the dim light.
***********
As I locked eyes with the figure, Ademide and the woman froze, sensing the sudden tension.
"Who are you?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady.
The figure stepped forward, revealing a hooded face with piercing brown eyes.
I've seen these eyes somewhere.
"I've been waiting," the figure said, voice low and menacing.
Waiting for what? I wondered, my mind racing.
The woman took a step back, fear etched on her face. "It's him. The one from the rumors."
Rumors? What rumors?
Ademide's grip on my arm tightened. "Ayomide, let's get out of here."
But I stood firm, refusing to back down.
The figure began to circle around us, its eyes fixed on Lola and Ademide.
"You shouldn't have come here," it said, voice dripping with malice.
Suddenly, the figure lunged at Lola, and I reacted instinctively.
I pushed Ademide and the woman aside and tackled the figure.
We crashed to the ground, fighting for control.
Ademide's screams echoed through the wreckage.
As I struggled to pin the figure down, its hood fell away.
Revealing a face I knew.
A face from my nightmares.
**********
I stared into the face of my childhood friend, Femi.
Femi, who had disappeared five years ago.
Femi, who was supposed to be dead.
"What...why?" I stuttered, shock and confusion overwhelming me.
Femi's eyes flashed with anger, but his voice remained calm.
"You shouldn't have come here, Ayomide."
"Why? What have you done?"
Femi's gaze flicked to the girls, and his expression twisted.
"They are mine now."
Ademide's scream pierced the air as Femi's words sent a chill down my spine.
I struggled to process the horror unfolding before me.
Femi, my friend, my brother, was behind this destruction?
Why?
How?
The questions swirled in my mind as Femi's grip on me tightened.
Suddenly, Ademide's hands were on my shoulders, pulling me back.
"Ayomide, we have to go!" she shouted.
But I was frozen, locked in Femi's haunting gaze.
"Ayomide!" Ademide yelled again.
This time, I responded.
Together, we scrambled to our feet, grabbing Lola and about to leave.
"Where are do you think you are going to?" I looked to assess where the voice was coming from.
Lo and behold, it was no other than the mysterious woman that led us to where Lola is.
It is funny that we did not even bother to know who she was, we just followed her.
"Nice job Titi, you delivered beyond expectations." The icy voice of Femi spoke with a smirk on his face.
"Why are you doing this?" It was Ademide who spoke this time around.
"Why don't you ask your dear bestie, but in the mean while enjoy your stay here." He said evily.
With that said, group of men that I had not seen before swam up on us and dragged us into an isolated room.
Great!
Now we are stuck in a place for the second time again.
"So much for your Adventure Ademide!" I screamed angrily at her while she just bowed her head meekly
