For a better reading experience, use the link on my profile or copy the link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18-Kol7qmQjbIlcdVLu1cwApqLUBL3TQV?usp=sharing. I will also post as I go on the google doc, meaning that if you do not want to wait until the full chapter is translated you can go there. Overall, the doc is better since it has headings/subheadings, the translation notes are color-coated, and links for further context are available. But alas, I also put it here as an option. Enjoy!

Stone Wall (1)

***Part 1

[Do not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for the day you eat of it you will die.]

[But there is a time when you must know good and evil, even if your life is on the line.]

Seok-hwa studied Dr. Oh's handwriting carefully. One was a passage from Genesis, and the other was probably Dr. Oh's thoughts. Seok-hwa had not paid much attention to Dr. Oh Yang-seok's journal except for research data, but as the story of the Garden of Eden unfolded, he took a second look at the sections he'd ignored.

The most plausible hypothesis so far is that Dr. Oh questioned the structure of Rainbow City and aligned himself with the Garden of Eden, which led to his murder.

When you need to know good and evil......

The date of the meeting mentioned by the kidnapper, or rather the person who called himself a serpent, was only three days away. It may be okay to go alone to Red Area 13 where Adam was wiped out, but should he?

Rather than that, creating the 7th vaccine was an urgent priority. However, all kinds of disturbing thoughts did not go away.

As before, the infection-causing protein was cut from the Adam virus, inserted into a cold virus, and then genetically recombined using equipment, but the resulting vaccine did not function properly.

One of the reasons for the delay in vaccine research was the lack of direct test subjects in the lab. The Adam virus was too deadly to test on animals, and there was no way to guarantee the safety of researchers against rampaging animals. Furthermore, because the virus mutated, it was even discussed that it could now be transmitted through the respiratory system rather than just the mucous membranes.

Even the old Ebola virus could only be handled in a BL4 (Biosafety Level 4) lab, and sometimes there was only one of those labs in a country. So the Adam virus, which is much more potent, had to be handled with extreme caution. Rainbow City could collapse without a trace just like when the Adam virus spread uncontrollably for the first time.

There was still only one place where animal experiments were being conducted. It was a research facility designated as a Red Zone like the zoo, where the vaccine developed in the shelter was transported there and injected into the test subjects. They tested the effectiveness of the vaccine there and sent back the experimental results. The researchers were usually military personnel.

However, not all animals are susceptible to the Adam virus; one of the currently uninfectious species is birds. Of course, when the first Adam virus appeared, birds were also infected, but they were excluded after the third wave. Researchers thought there was a reason for this and continued to study it, but nothing came of it.

No matter how many brilliant minds were born and funded, everything was under the control of Rainbow City. Some months, the research wing would be paralyzed due to lack of funding. Likewise, no matter how physically gifted people were born, Adam would never completely disappear from the face of the earth.

"Dr. ......?"

Seok-hwa, who was staring at a gene-combining machine the size of his body, snapped to attention.
