"JAY, GET BACK HERE!" A voice yelled. I groaned and pushed the covers off of me. Didn't the boys care about how much sleep I got at night?
"COME AND GET ME!" Another voice yelled. I guessed that was Jay. The other voice must've been Kai. Leave it up to those two to start havoc early in the morning. I stood up on wobbly legs and wrenched open the door. Cole and Lloyd were standing in the living room, watching Kai and Jay chase each other around the monastery.
"What's going on?" Cole asked groggily. "I was going to the kitchen to get my morning cake, but then I heard Kai yelling."
Zane frowned. "Cole, eating cake as soon as you wake up is not healthy for you." Cole rolled his eyes. Suddenly, a blue blur zoomed past us at lightning speed. I stumbled back, and Cole hoisted me upright.
"What was that?" Lloyd asked. We shrugged. Kai stormed in, his eyes filled with rage.
"GIVE ME MY HAIR GEL, IDIOT!" He roared.
"I DIDN'T TAKE IT!" Jay yelled back from the direction the blur went. Oh, so the blur was Jay. That made sense, since Jay was the Master of Lightning.
Kai chased Jay into the courtyard, and Lloyd went after them. Cole dismissed himself to go get his morning cake, and Zane and I were going to head down to the secret base to help Pixal build our mechs, but Lloyd came back in, screaming his head off.
"GUYS! KAI IS BEATING JAY UP!"
"What?!" Cole spit his cake out. Then he regretfully stared at the piece of cake on the floor. Lloyd sighed in annoyance.
"I said, Kai is-"
"We heard you the first time!" I exclaimed. "What did Jay do this time?"
"I don't know! I'm so confused," Lloyd scratched his head. I shoved past him and ran outside. I froze when I saw Kai on top of Jay. He was punching him over and over again. My eyes widened.
"KAI ANTHONY SMITH!" I seethed. Kai jerked up and paused, his lips stretching into a nervous smile. I glared at him. "Get off of him!"
Kai scrambled off of Jay, who was breathing heavily. I jogged over to Jay and helped him lean against the courtyard wall. "Zane, can you bring me some bandages?" I asked. Zane nodded and rushed inside. He returned with a roll of bandages.
Zane handed me the roll. "I'm truly sorry, Jay. I should have intervened to prevent your injuries." Jay shook his head.
"Nah, it's okay. Kai, I promise I didn't take your gel. I don't need it." Kai nodded in understanding. Lloyd had a super guilty expression plastered over his face. I grew suspicious of him.
"What's wrong?" I asked. Lloyd grinned sheepishly at Kai, and that said it all. Kai turned on Lloyd and started marching towards him. I could see steam pouring out of his ears. Cole stepped in between them.
"Kai, please don't-"
"YOU IDIOT!" Kai roared. "YOU MADE ME BEAT UP JAY FOR NO REASON, AND NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME!" Lloyd took a step back cautiously.
"I didn't make you beat up Jay! You were just overreacting!" Lloyd argued. I signaled for him to be quiet, but he didn't take the hint. "It's not my fault you have anger issues."
Kai kept silent, to my surprise, and his frown settled into a grimace. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to overreact. To either of you. If Cole wasn't in between us, I don't know what I would have done to you, Lloyd. And if Nya didn't come out to stop me, Jay would be even more severely injured than he is right now."
"Precisely," Zane agreed. Cole helped Jay inside, while Kai and Lloyd hung back to talk. Cole, Jay, and I ducked behind the entrance to spy on them.
"I'm really sorry, Lloyd," Kai apologized. "But do you know where my hair gel is?" Lloyd reached into the pocket of his green ninja giant pulled out a red tube. Kai snatched it from him and rushed to the bathroom. Jay rolled his eyes and sank into the couch.
"That guy is too over dramatic." Cole plopped down next to him.
"Tell me about it."
Zane jogged in. "There is no time for that. Pixal and Master Wu need to talk to us."
I was concerned. "What? Why?"
Zane's expression grew serious. "Kalmaar has returned."
