Waking up in an unfamiliar house was something Jacqueline knew she'd have to get used to. Eventually, she knew, it would become familiar.

As Jacqueline groggily yawned, she reached for her phone, which buzzed with a new message from Nathan on iMessage. She opened it to find a text saying, "I miss you," accompanied by a photo of him shirtless and wet, as if he had just stepped out of the shower. His defined V-line was visible in the picture, causing Jacqueline to blush. She adored seeing Nathan's, and without hesitation, she saved the photo to her gallery before replying, "I miss you so much more."

A flurry of butterflies danced in her stomach, and she couldn't help but smile as she swung her legs over the side of the bed. She stretched, feeling the cool morning air on her skin, and then made her way to her overnight bag.

Jacqueline rummaged through her overnight bag, pulling out the clothes she had planned to wear for today. She chose a pair of wide-legged, faded jeans that hung loosely around her ankles, giving her a relaxed, yet stylish look. She paired them with a grey, asymmetrical off-the-shoulder sweater layered over a darker grey tank top. The outfit had a casual, yet edgy vibe, perfect for her new surroundings. She finished the look with a pair of black sneakers adorned with white stars, adding a touch of playful flair.

Jacqueline laid the outfit out on the bed, appreciating the blend of comfort and style it offered. After gathering her things, she headed to the bathroom for a shower. The bathroom was quaint, with white tiles and a claw-foot tub that gave it a vintage charm.

After finishing her shower, she wrapped herself in a plush towel and stood in front of the mirror, quickly getting dried off and got dressed, the familiar fabric of her jeans and sweater providing comfort.

Jacqueline then moved to the small vanity in the corner of the room to dry her hair and apply a bit of makeup.

As she left her bedroom, Jacqueline walked downstairs, where Faith and her mom, Skylar, were sitting at the island, eating fruit and drinking coffee.

"Good morning," Faith and Skylar greeted in unison, scooting the fruit bowl over to offer her some.

"Good morning, Faith. Good morning, Ms. Bennett," Jacqueline smiled, taking a bite of pineapple as she sat next to Faith.

Skylar laughed warmly, "You know you don't have to call me Ms. Bennett, sweetie. I'm just fine with Skylar or even Mom."

Jacqueline laughed lightly, feeling the warmth in Skylar's words. "Okay, Skylar," she replied, her smile widening as she reached for another piece of pineapple.

Faith nudged her playfully. "So, how was your first night here? Did you sleep well?"

Jacqueline nodded. "I did, actually. It's a bit strange getting used to a new place, but it's so cozy here. Thank you for having me."

Skylar waved her hand dismissively. "We're happy to have you. It's nice to have another person in the house. Makes it feel more lively."

Faith agreed, swallowing her mouthful of strawberry. "Living with my best friend is literally a dream come true. Plus, it's been boring since my brother moved out. That little shit was annoying and loud, but I low-key miss him."

Jacqueline chuckled, feeling the warmth of their welcome. "I appreciate it. I was a bit nervous about the move, but you both have made it so much easier."

After finishing breakfast, Jacqueline and Faith grabbed their bags and headed out. The morning air was crisp, the sky a clear blue.

Arriving at school, Jacqueline noticed Mr. Anderson standing by the front gates with two police officers. The sight made her heart race and her palms sweat. She felt a wave of panic wash over her. Faith, sensing Jacqueline's distress, tugged gently at her sleeve and whispered, "What's going on over there?"
