| Author's POV |
Tiara closed her eyes and was about to scream out of the pain of being bitten, but Aayan put his hand on her mouth, preventing her from screaming.Suddenly, the noise of a steel glass dropping came. Tiara pushed Aayan in a jerk and turned back.
The maid came and saw everything they were doing... She was standing in the same place without moving, just looking at them wide-eyed.
The room was totally silent after the echoing of the steel glass dropping.
"T-tumne kuch dekha toh nahi naa?" (Translation - You haven't seen anything, right?) Tiara asked with all the confidence she gathered.
The maid said nothing but covered her mouth with her left hand and ran out of the kitchen.
Tiara and Aayan turned their heads towards each other and looked at each other. They both ran out of the kitchen and looked for the maid. Both looked stressed as if something great had happened.
But unfortunately, they couldn't find her 😂
Tiara was upset and depressed. Then suddenly, she remembered that she was cooking something and had forgotten it on the stove. She rushed to the kitchen and saw that the food was burnt. She hit her head with her hand and said, "Aayan ki wajah se aaj sabko jala hua khaana khana padega," (Translation - Only because of Aayan, everyone has to eat burnt food)
Meanwhile, Aayan was still searching for the maid so he could tell her not to gossip about the previous incident with anyone. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the maid.
Tiara was done and called another maid to summon all the family members to the dining hall.
Everyone came and sat on chairs, waiting for the maid or Tiara to serve them. Daadi was eager to have aloo ka bharta, made by her beloved granddaughter-in-law.
"Arey Tiara beta jaldi khana lao! Bhook lag rahi hai!" (Translation - Hey Tiara, bring the food fast! I'm feeling hungry!) Daadi screamed like a little 10-year-old child and giggled.
I went with a pot in my hand. The pot was full of aloo ka bharta, actually burnt aloo ka bharta.
"Aai daadi, sabr rakhiye thoda," (Translation - Coming grandma, have some patience) I spoke and placed the pot on the dining table.
Daadi opened the pot and served herself some aloo ka bharta and two chapatis. Aloo ka bharta seemed a little burnt, but no one noticed because they knew whatever I make will be good and delicious.
Daadi took a bite and a sudden change in her expression was clearly seen. She decreased the speed at which she was chewing the food. She looked at me with a face of disgust.
"Ye kya hai baccha? Koi nayi dish hai kya?" (Translation - What is this child? Is this a new dish?) Daadi asked me.
"Oh my god! How can I tell her that this is not a new dish, but a burnt dish... And all this happened because of her beloved grandson. Aayan ka baccha! Uske liye hi sab hua hai ye! (Translation - Aayan's Child! Everything has happened only because of him!)
"Daadi woh khana thoda jaldi gaya tha..." (Translation - Grandma, actually the food was a little burnt...) I replied to daadi, being scared of being scolded.
Daadi gave me a scary glare. I was scared. The way she was looking at me, I thought she's going to kill me before I make some excuse or blame her grandson.
"Itni si baat? Aur tum itna dar dar ke keh rahi ho? Koi nahi, pehle pehle mera khana jal hi jaata tha, mere saath bhi hota tha," (Translation - Such a small thing? And you are saying this incessantly? No worries, my food always used to get burnt, it used to happen to me too) Daadi said calmly. Her reply was unexpected to me.
Thank God! Bach gayi, par baaki log kaise khayenge ye jala hua bekar sa khaana?! (Translation - I got saved, but how will other people eat this burnt food?!)
Everyone completed their dinner soon. Hopefully, no one complained about the aloo ka bharta. Aayan gulped the food without saying even a word about the dish because he knew that everything happened because of him. Usually, he complains about the food if it's not perfect. Everyone was astonished to see him like that.
He stood up from the chair after completing the food and said, "Khaana accha tha," (Translation - Food was good) in a rude way like he ate something disgusting.
I agree the food was disgusting, but at least he should say that in a good way. If he didn't want to, he should not!
Daadi and Maa looked at each other and laughed loudly, clearly audible to Aayan.
"Arey itne jor jor se kyun hass rahe ho tum log?" (Translation - Hey, why are you laughing this loudly?) Dadaji asked.
"Dekho ji, aur koi khaana banata hai toh Aayan shikayat karta hai... Aj uski khudki biwi ne khaana banaya toh usne kuch nahi kaha!" (Translation - Look, when someone cooks food, he complains... Today his own wife cooked food and he didn't say anything!) Daadi replied to Dadaji and laughed loudly again.
I was so embarrassed at that moment. I lowered my head looking down at the plate. I completed my dinner soon and waited for the other members to finish as well.
Sequentially, everyone completed their dinner and got up. I, Daadi, Chachi, and Maa got up after everyone.
I went to the kitchen with all the dishes. Chachi was helping me take the dishes to the kitchen.
"Tiara, tum so jao ab, bartan mai maid ko bol dungi dhone ke liye," Chachi told me with a soothing voice.
I went to the room to finally have a comfortable sleep. I opened the room door, and Aayan was there. I went to the bed, ignoring him after that incident.
At the middle of the night, I felt a little thirsty. I got up to get some water. The water bottle was there on the table beside my bed. I drank the water and felt empty in the room. I switched on the lights and noticed Aayan was nowhere in the room. I felt something fishy. I went downstairs to the kitchen.
And guess what! Aayan was there cooking something for himself.
"Chupke chupke se kya bana rahe ho, Mr. Aayan Malhotra?" (Translation - What are you making secretly, Mr. Aayan Malhotra?) I said while having my arms folded.
He turned his head towards me in a jerk. He looked at me with puppy eyes, trying to impress me with them. He held his ears and kneeled down. That was really an unexpected move.
"Sorry, maine aaj sab bigaad diya, maaf kardo?" (Translation - Sorry, I messed everything up today, please forgive me?) he apologized.
I was shocked to see him beg me for an apology. The shock was visible in my eyes.
