   Kinza

Standing outside my mother’s office with Nouman, I felt a mix of determination and dread. This was it. We were going to force her to tell us everything. Nouman looked at me, his eyes steady and reassuring. We had come this far together; we could do this.

We entered the office with a confidence that belied the turmoil inside us. My mother, Mrs. Sultan, looked up from her desk, and the colour drained from her face. She gasped, staring at me as if she’d seen a ghost.

"Sad that I’m alive, right, Mom?" I said, my voice cold and steady.

She continued to stare, shock and fear battling for dominance on her face. Nouman and I wasted no time, walking over to the couch and sitting down as if we owned the place.

"We’re here for some information," I said, leaning back casually. "And we’re confident you have the time to tell us a good story."

My mother’s mouth opened and closed, her eyes darting between us. "Kinza, I... I don’t understand..."

"We know you were behind the underground war and the kidnapping, Mom," I interrupted, my voice sharper now. "So how about you just tell us everything?"

Her face went pale, and she looked like her world had just flipped over. "H-how... how do you know?" she whispered.

Nouman leaned forward, his expression hard. "Don’t try to cover this up. I can send you to jail in a few moments. So, start talking."

She started to tremble, her eyes wide with fear. "Okay, okay," she stuttered. "I’ll tell you."

I felt a cold satisfaction seeing her so scared. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "That day, when you were both so sick, Nouman shot his mother. But before she died, she pulled the trigger on her gun and hit Nouman. I was there. I sent you, Kinza, to the hospital and was going to leave Nouman when..."

Her voice trailed off, and she looked even more terrified. "He came."

"Who is ‘he’?" I demanded. "And how were you and Nouman’s mother involved in all of this?"

She took another shaky breath, her eyes flickering with a mix of fear and regret. "His name... I can’t say his name. He’s too powerful. But he said he would save Nouman and use him for his own purposes. He saw potential in him, something he could use. He took Nouman and made him... disappear from our world."

Nouman’s jaw tightened, and I felt his anger radiating beside me. "And you just let him take me?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

"I didn’t have a choice!" she cried. "He threatened to kill us all if I didn’t comply. I thought... I thought he would protect you, in his own way."

My heart pounded in my chest. "And what about your involvement in the underground war? Why did you and Nouman’s mother do all this?"

She looked at me, tears in her eyes. "We were part of something bigger, something that got out of control. It started with smuggling, money, power... but it turned into something else. We got involved with dangerous people, and when we wanted out, it was too late. They used our children against us. It was a way to keep us in line, to ensure our loyalty."

I felt a cold fury rising inside me. "So you sacrificed us for your own gain? You let us suffer?"

She shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I didn’t want any of this. I tried to protect you, but I failed. I’m so sorry, Kinza."

Nouman’s hand tightened on mine, grounding me. "Sorry isn’t enough," he said quietly. "We need the full truth, and we need to know who this man is."

My mother nodded, her fear palpable. "I’ll tell you everything. Just... Please, don’t send me to jail. I’ll tell you everything I know about him and about our past."

My mother sat in front of us, her face etched with regret and fear. She took a deep breath and began to tell her story. I could see the years of guilt weighing heavily on her.

"I was married to your father, and we had a great family with you, Kinza," she started, her voice trembling. "Then he came into my life. We met at a café, and I fell in love with him. He was charming, and we started meeting all the time. But he was from a rival family."

I listened, my heart pounding. This was the beginning of everything that had gone wrong.

"My love for your father faded," she continued. "He, the man I fell for, said we could make a new world, that we could be happy together. But for that, he wanted to kill your father so he could take over the empire. I was so in love that I agreed. I didn't know he was also in a relationship with his boss's wife. She was Nouman's mother."

I glanced at Nouman, who was listening intently, his face impassive but his eyes burning with anger.

"He convinced her too, to kill her husband," my mother said, her voice shaking more. "We made a plan. We would kidnap you kids and start a war. Both men would die, and we would get whatever we wanted. I didn't know they were going to torture you. Nouman's mother hated Nouman because he was born when her husband raped her. She wanted to kill him. And he, the man I loved, wanted to end both of you."

I felt a cold fury rising within me. How could she have been so blind, so reckless?

"The war started," she continued, tears streaming down her face. "Both men died. We thought this was our victory. But then I found out what they were doing to you. I reached there as quickly as I could. By then, Nouman's mother was dead."

She paused, her breath hitching. "He threatened to kill me and you, Kinza, if I said a word. We did some operations on both of you, and you lost your memories. It was the only way to keep you safe. I tried to protect you, but I failed miserably."

The room was silent, the weight of her confession hanging heavy in the air. Nouman’s grip on my hand tightened, his anger palpable but controlled.

"You let us suffer for your love affair?" I asked, my voice cold. "You sacrificed us for your selfish desires?"

She shook her head, sobbing. "I didn’t want any of this. I was blinded by love, manipulated. I thought I was doing the right thing at the time. I never wanted you to suffer."

"You let a man who wanted us dead, who wanted power, control everything," Nouman said, his voice low and dangerous. "You and my mother played with our lives."

My mother’s sobs grew louder, her body shaking. "I’m so sorry. I know I can't undo what happened. But I’ll help you now. I'll tell you everything about him, everything I know. Just please, don't send me to jail."

"Who is he?" I demanded, my voice fierce. "We need to know."

She took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. "His name is Rashid Khan , The Uncle of Nouman. He's a powerful man, and he has connections everywhere. He’s dangerous, and he’s been hiding in the shadows all these years. He controls a lot of underground activities. He was the one who orchestrated everything."

I felt a chill run down my spine. Rashid Khan , Nouman’s uncle, the one I met on the first day . I looked towards Nouman who had the same expressions as mine . but there was anger and darkness . How can this happen? He was the mastermind behind this whole game .

Nouman stood up, his expression hard. "We have what we need for now. But this isn't over. We will bring him down, and we will make sure he suffers the most “
