CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE | THAT'S WHAT THEY CALL REVENGE
****
When Scooter arrived at the hospital, he trusted my words of Ireland's wellness and we soon took off for the school. The drive itself was no longer than fifteen minutes, but the worry about the scrimmage Rick set forth made it seem like hours. There was no way that this would end well.
When we arrived, Rick was waiting for us and as soon as we got out of the car, we headed to the locker room where the rest of the team was supposedly waiting. Rick was fuming, angry that the JV team had pulled a prank that got his sister in the hospital.
As soon as we set foot in the locker room, few people were talking, most were standing by their lockers itching everywhere. I locked eyes with Adam's familiar blue ones and made my way over to him. There was evident worry in them that made me walk faster.
I didn't get to greet him before I was pulled into a tight hug, then wasted no time to hug him back.
"You okay?" I heard whispered in my ear.
I pulled away slightly to look him in the eyes. "Yeah, I'm okay. I feel so bad about Ireland."
"Me too. Rick told me over the phone," he paused, cupping my face with his hands and examining the ant bites. "I am going to kill Charlie," he muttered.
"I think he's regretting it, but he's probably to pissed to realize it."
He went to respond when we heard Rick's voice ring throughout the locker room.
"Everyone gear up! We are going to kill those little pests."
Sighing, I pulled myself away from Adam completely and walked to my locker. While pulling my variety of pads on, there was a twisted feeling that I couldn't shake. Something was going to go very wrong and there wasn't anything any of us could do now.
I was so lost in thought that I didn't see Scooter walking up to me, and I jumped when I heard his voice.
"Almost everyone's out of here. You alright?"
I looked up at him and shook my head. "How did everything go wrong?"
He sighed. "That, I don't have an answer to," he placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "But, how about we focus on this dumb scrimmage, then worry about the rest later. Plus, Banksie is waiting on you."
I glanced over his shoulder to find Adam leaning against his locker, looking a little lost.
"Let's get this over with."

Warming up for whatever reason was calming. I took my anger and uncertainty out on shooting the puck, and was getting concerned glances from some of my teammates. At some point I had taken a shot so hard that had narrowly made it past Scooter's side. The ringing of it hitting pipe could be heard throughout the rink.
Everything was way too quiet.
At some point I noticed Adam skating ahead of Charlie, but knew it wasn't friendly when Charlie shouldered past him.
When Rick called to start the game, both teams skated to their respective benches, and started talking game.
"Alright men, and Jensen, I want to cream these good-for-nothings to a pulp. No mercy, you hear me? They will pay."
I looked at Adam with uncertainty. I could see regret filling his eyes as he shrugged his shoulders. There was nothing either of us could do now.
"Cole, you'll be my left side. Jensen, you'll be my right. The rest of you, do not let up. Hit them hard."
