"Any sign of food?" Heather asked Duncan. She was tired of doing all of this walking. They had gone out to gather food for camp, although what they could find was limited."Nah, we need to keep searching anyway , look on the ground for anything fallen off trees." Duncan answered. "Fucking mutts took it all."
"Bastards." Heather remarked as the pair trailed through what used to be a shopping mall but got demolished from the crazy weather they'd been getting.
"What food have we got so far, we can't go back empty handed." Duncan asked. Duncan knew what it was like to be hungry, even before the apocalypse happened he never had much food on the table.
"We have a Racoon, some mouldy berries, nettles and a few chestnuts." She replied.
"That's gonna feed 10 people? another night like this and we might have to eat each other."
"It won't be the first night we've went hungry. We have some old supplies back at camp."
Duncan nodded. "Let's head back anyway, before it gets dark. All I have with me is an axe."
"Why did u not bring the gun you idiot?"
"I didn't want to waste the bullets." Duncan replied and started leading them back to camp. Their camp wasn't very big but it was.. homey, to say the least. It was built on the remains of a small cabin in the woods. It was still mostly intact and had good insulation.

After about 45 minutes of walking, the arrived back at camp. Luckily they didn't encounter any mutts on their way. They trailed slowly to the cabin, the walk of shame was awaiting them, where they would have to disappoint starving faces with the unpleasant reality of deprivation.
As Duncan opened the door and Heather heaved the small load in. The room froze, anticipation turned to disappointment in seconds.
"What'd u find?" Geoff asked, breaking the silence.
"Not much, just a few berries and nuts, nettles and a Racoon." Duncan declared. "Sorry."
"Don't be man, don't be." Geoff said, grabbing the sack of food from his hand and patting Duncan on the back as he did.
Geoff brought the sack of goods to the kitchen where Courtney and Bridgette were waiting. They cooked the food most nights, even though Bridgette was 7 months pregnant, it didn't excuse the fact that she could make any trash the others brought in for dinner into something edible.
As the 2 girls configured what to do with the food, Heather snuck in next to Alejandro and snuggled in next to him, trailing her nose and lips down his neck. Her and Alejandro had been dating since before the apocalypse happened.
As the two embraced Courtney stood in the middle of the spacious room. The cabin was pretty big, having one main room and 3 other smaller rooms.
"Okay everyone we need some firewood to cook the Racoon, any volunteers?" Courtney asked eagerly and irritated.
"Me and Duncan were just out!" Heather announced.
"Me, Tyler and Trent spent most of the day setting traps." Alejandro confirmed.
"I was cleaning all day with Gwen AND helping Bridgette with her pregnancy pains." Geoff said proudly.
The room stirred to look at Lindsay who was looking at an old magazine they found in the ruins of a corner store.
"Lindsay how about you go out?" Courtney said.
"Guys please, no!!" Lindsay moaned, closing over her magazine.
