Under Control

Weeks later, the situation is finally under control.

Of course, most of the engineering decks and even the other decks are still in a cautious verge.

Chief Engineering Officer, Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott, has sealed off the deck where the explosion was and programmed robots to fix the damages without more personnel being susceptible to the leak.

The deck was eventually fixed and then all the radiation was filtered out multiple times two weeks subsequent to the death of one member of the engineering crew, Jenny.

The engineering crew resumed maintenance of the deck as well as many others, and the ship has regained full warp capabilities.

Tune in at Eleven PM Celestial Time for our special report on the medical side of this catastrophe.

Chief Medical Officer, 5th in Command, Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy's POV (what a mouthful)

I turn off my tablet and smile. Smile because those weeks are finally over. Of course the press was still going to cover this 'catastrophe' for weeks, maybe even months to come, but it was over, at least to us.

After screening more and more people, we realized that the only people that were affected with tumours were the crew within close proximity to the blast.

We probably did around 20 surgeries to remove those tumours and all the engineering crew has been put on Febterol, an anti-tumour and anti-cancer medication that destroys the genetic errors and mutations before they have a chance to spiral out of control.

We continue seeing patients for this as follow up, but no one else has presented themselves with tumours or anything of that matter in a while now.

After some self reflection, I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in," I say.

Jim and Spock walk in. Jim looks happy, with a smile on his face. Spock looks like Spock.

"Coffee?" I ask Jim and Spock, but mostly Jim after I motion them to sit down.

Jim nods.

"No thank you, Doctor," Spock says.

I pass Jim a hot mug, and sit in my chair behind my desk.

"So Captain, Spock," I say, "what brings you two here this morning?"

"Bones," Jim started, "we need some perspective on your medical side of the events and how they unfolded."

Spock handed me a package inside an envelope. I open it to see the words 'Official Press Release' centred in a large sized font. The official Federation and Starfleet seals were also on the cover page, along with the names of Jim, Spock, Scotty, and I.

"We think now is a good time to make an official statement to every one; to avoid the story being twisted." Jim stated.

"I know what a press release is, Jim," I grumbled.

Jim smiled.

"So you'll give us a hand with this?" he said one last time.

"Yeah sure," I shrugged.

He and Spock stood up and went for the door.

"Goodbye Bones," Jim said politely.

"Doctor," Spock nodded.

As soon as they left, I slipped the release back into the envelope and chucked it in my massive pile of paperwork.

They are such dorks.
