Keefe's alarm went off right at dawn.

The only thing that kept him from falling back to sleep was that it was their first day at a human school. He groaned and rolled over, stretching his arm in an attempt to reach the device, which was the sound of a flock of seagulls screeching. Keefe would've preferred waking up to one of Iggy's ground-shaking burps.

Actually, scratch that. He would die from the toxic smell of Iggy's monstrous breath.

His fingers brushed against the alarm, sending it crashing to the ground. But the noise had stopped, so Keefe didn't care. He reluctantly swung his legs over the side of his bed- which was way too comfy for his own good.

His feet hit sand, startling him. He had forgotten that his room was basically a miniature beach. Despite the fact he hated living with his father at the Waves of Wimpiness, he really loved the beach. Half of his room was filled with ocean water, that occasionally surged further into his room. Instead of a rug, he had an extra large beach towel covering most of the sand.

His bed hung from the ceiling by chains, and he had a desk right next to the headboard, which was filled with art supplies. He had a window looking out to the sunrise, his closet and bathroom on the opposite side of the water. The mini ocean came to just above his waist at its deepest.

He groggily changed into human pants that Sophie had described as jeans, which were made of a material called denim. He thought that was weird, since one of the prodigies in his level at Foxfire was named Denim. He also threw on his favourite Batman shirt from two years ago, surprised it fit. He figured that the shirt was either really big when he first got it, or the gnomes altered it.

By the time he got into the bathroom to fix his hair, he was fully awake. He could've had more time to sleep, but The Hair takes lots of precious time he wouldn't have had.

He quickly and stealthily descended the stairs, trying to not wake anyone up. He made his way to the dining hall, noticing Sophie was already there.

"Hey Foster," Keefe grinned, making his way over to where she seemed to be zoning out at a table. "What are you doing up so early?"

"Hi Keefe, and I don't even know. I could ask the same about you though. Since when are you an early riser?" Sophie countered.

"Well, The Hair needs to look its best for the ladies." Keefe gestured to his head.

Sophie raised an inquisitive eyebrow.

Keefe, quickly catching onto her meaning, quickly corrected himself. "Lady Foster. The Hair needs to look its best for the Lady Foster."

She offered him a small smile, shaking her head. After a moment of picking at her food, she examined his hair. "Hmm, it needs a little more..."

Instead of finishing her sentence, she reached over the table to mess with his hair, which he had spent an exact hour on. Keefe was about to protest when he noticed how nice her hand brushing over his scalp felt. He released a content sigh- which came out involuntarily- and Keefe practically melted from the feeling, but he tried not to let it show.

He failed.

Sophie pulled away, looking satisfied with whatever she'd done to "fix" his hair. "That's good."

She looked back down at his face as she lowered herself into her seat. Sophie smirked. "Is Keefe Sencen blushing? Now I see what you mean when you say it's fun."

Keefe blinked a few times. "Did we just have that freaky moment where we switch personalities, 'cause I must say Foster, it's weird."

Sophie shrugged, smiling still. "Whatever, it's fun."
