Lisa studied her face with rigid eyes.
Jennie raised her head and dropped it when she saw his expression. He did not look pleased with her. She nervously bit her bottom lip, not realizing the small action stirred his heart.
She did not know how to quell his anger. She was too prideful to suddenly apologize. Without warning, she threw herself on top of him, completely surprising the man beneath her.
Lisa utilized all of his willpower to not hug her back. It was excruciatingly hard to resist the temptation, especially when she buried her face under his chin, just a few inches away from his Adam's apple. She wrapped her arms around his neck and stayed in her position for a very long time. Perhaps she was rallying the courage she needed, or perhaps this was her way of apologizing. Regardless of the reasoning, it was slightly effective.
Lisa nearly lost control when she abruptly kissed his neck and then buried her face into his shoulder. He was always an impatient person, where one second felt like a minute. He was notoriously known for lashing out when people made him wait. But when it comes to the petite woman resting on his chest, he had all the patience in the world. If she wanted him to wait for all of eternity, he would swallow his protest and oblige.
A tiny voice, sweet and calming, whispered into his skin. "I was wrong."
Lisa's lips twitched. "What was that?" He asked, cupping his ears.
Her voice grew even quieter. "I said I was wrong."
"I can't hear you."
Anger washed over Jennie whose head shot up. "I said I was wrong." She sat up from her position to glare at him.
Lisa's eyes darkened with desire. She did not realize her straddling position, but he most certainly did. Had she sat further back, he would've pushed her onto the bed and captured her lips.
Jennie fumed on top of him, her hazel eyes burning. Sparks of amber flashed in her eyes. "I know you heard me."
"Yes, but I did not hear an apology."
Jennie's frustration settled a bit when she realized she was supposed to be apologetic and not angry. She drew circles on his chest with her fingers. In a voice so quiet, it could barely pass as a whisper, she muttered, "I'm sorry."
Lisa had a slight smile on his face. It was barely there. "I'm sorry as well." He brought his hands and rested them on her hips, holding her in place so that she would not tumble over.
All of Jennie's anger and guilt washed away. A faint smile graced her lips as she leaned down and rested her body on top of him again.
Lisa let out a contented sigh upon having her peacefully in his arms. He patted her back and buried his face into her hair.
"Yesterday I went to see Kim Hanbin again." She said against his shoulders. "We talked it out like responsible adults."
"Did you now?" Lisa listened to her explanation with open ears.
"Mmhm. In the end, we will remain friends."
Lisa was upset by her words and opened his mouth to protest, but she unknowingly interrupted him.
"I need him as my Vice President. Trust me, once he has been rejected, he will not pursue any further."
"And how can you be so sure?"
"Because I've known him for a very long time. Besides, I see him as a brother, so you can have my word that I will never see him as a romantic partner."
Lisa's arm hardened over her body, resembling an iron cage holding her to him. They fell into a comfortable silence.
He wanted to ask her what happened yesterday for her to return home in shambles. The men he assigned to tail her had reported she was fine when she left the restaurant, but after running into a man and a woman on the streets, she became visibly shaken up. His reports identified the people as Park Soo-young and Yook Sungjae who, like most of Jennie's acquaintances, came from very wealthy families with way too much power in their hands.
Jennie always wanted to say the next three words to him, ever since she heard him say it. She couldn't bring herself to reciprocate his words, but today she could. In the smallest voice possible, she said, "I love you."
Lisa thought he was hearing things and that his lack of food was making him hallucinate. "What did you say?"
Jennie hid the smile threatening to break out on her lips. She leaned back and repeated every syllable, "I love you."
Lisa heard the wedding bells before he heard her words. He could die the happiest man alive right now. "Do you know how long I've waited to hear you say that?" He grinned, pulling her closer.
"Silly girl, I love you more." He whispered before bringing her head down to lock her lips. Their kiss was soft and sweet at first before it became more passionate and lustful. His suckling on her lips sent tingles down her body and when he licked it, she opened her mouth to give him more access. Their tongues tangled in a dance as old as time.
No matter how many times she kissed him, she could not get over how soft his lips were and how sweet he tasted. His kisses were intoxicating and it gave her a euphoria she never knew existed. Her body melted against his and before they could proceed any further, Lisa switched their positions so that she was pinned beneath him.
"Let's stop before it's too late." He whispered against her lips, pecking it, and then climbing off of her.
He sat at the edge of the bed, his broad and muscular back turned to her when he checked his phone as a way of distracting himself from her. Suddenly, something soft collided against his back. She rested her head on his shoulders and drew circles on his back, marveling the way his muscles clenched at her tiny movements.
"Let's go to the marriage bureau." Jennie had made up her mind just as she finally realized who her heart was set on for the rest of her life.
Lisa's phone fell out of his hands. He was so shocked at her words; it did not process in his brain until three seconds later. He turned around and pulled her into a hug, their bodies crashing onto the bed.
Her laughter stroked his heart, a sound he would never get tired of hearing. He buried his head into her shoulder, barely able to hide the grin threatening to break out. "Are you sure?"
"Of course."
"Then let's go." Lisa pulled her out of the bed and towards the door. She grabbed his arm to stop him.
"We have to get ready first. I'll go take a shower and freshen up." Jennie chuckled at his expression. He looked as if he had just won the jackpot lottery. She walked into the bathroom, brushed her teeth, took a shower, and came out in a white towel.
Lisa was nowhere to be found, but she assumed he went to the bathroom in a different room. She walked into the closet and grabbed a simple blue top, pairing it with white ripped jeans. She grabbed a different purse that matched the outfit and placed all of the important documents into it.
By the time she made her way downstairs, Lisa was already waiting for her. He was adjusting the button on his cuff. To no one's surprise, he was already wearing a suit.
When he saw her, he eagerly took her hand, looping their fingers together whilst pulling her out of the door. He was in a rush, for he was scared she might back out last minute.
"Relax." She mused when she got into the car. She placed a hand on his thigh and forced him to look at her. "You're looking at me as if I would run for the hills in any second now."
"I'm worried you would change your mind." Lisa cupped her face and pressed a soft kiss to her nose and then her forehead.
"I won't, silly." She laughed and shook her head. Did she really scare him that much before? He was always worried about her leaving him.
Lisa hummed in reply. He placed one final kiss on her cheek and turned towards Kim Jisoo. "Drive to the marriage bureau."
Kim Jisoo choked on his spit. Luckily for him, he regained his posture a second after. "Yes, sir." He began to drive, all the while, a smile on his face. He was ecstatic that his boss was finally going to tie the knot and it was with a woman he truly loved.
