A Gift From Mom

It was the morning of James birthday he woke up seeing his injuries from last night fight with Crimson Skull are now healing they practically look like fades and faint cuts he got out of his bed and took a shower then got dressed leaving the bathroom James walked to the kitchen seeing his adopted mother Dinah Blake cooking breakfast she turn to him and gave him a friendly smile.

Dinah: morning James I made some breakfast to start your birthday off.

James: thanks m-Dinah I appreciate it.

Dinah: no problem I have a gift for you but i'll let you have when you go out for patrol ok? but let's just try to make you have a good birthday.

James: that would be nice in my clan we don't celebrate birthdays or any other holidays we deemed them to distracting from our training besides we spent every holiday going out to protect or assassinate people and I don't think I want to celebrate my birthday.

Dinah: why wouldn't want to celebrate your own birthday? 

James: my birthdays is nothing but a cures anyway i'm going to meditate and clear my mind thanks for breakfast Dinah.

James got up from his chair and enter his room where he looked at a small item in his hand and just thinks back to the day he received this from his mother for his birthday he can remember it like it was yesterday.

~Flash Back~

It was a regular day everyone was either training, getting ready for a mission, or resting James was getting dressed in his training clothes when his mother enter the room smiling at him she was holding something behind her back which cause James to be suspicious the face he made caused his mother to giggle so whe sat down on his bed patting next to him telling the young boy to sit with her and so he did.  

Mother: James sweetie I have a gift for you it's very special me and your father worked very hard to make it.

James: what is it mother?

Mother: why don't you open it up and see for yourself.

Doing what his mother ask him to do he gently took off the ribbon and open the lid of the square box and it was-

~End Of Flashback~

Still holding up the box that he thankfully managed to grabbed before being sent to the future lookin at it a little longer je puts it away before getting back on his feet and walked out of his room Dinah was still at the table on her phone scrolling away. Thinking back to himself James know that he's no longer back in his time hell he's the last one but maybe things could possibly change for him? He will never forget his family and their teaching but maybe he could just be selfish this one time? But that will go against all of his teaching, his clan rules, he was selfish before many times and it only took the death of his family for him to realize that maybe he should forget about his birthday. Looking at Dinah he has ben living with her for well over five months now and she has been nothing but caring and protective of him even though she knows he can take care of himself well in a fight she still cared about his wellbeing. 

Not only that but she took the time to nurse him back to his health, teach him about all the new things the future has to hold, she encourage him to go out and protect people with her kind words, Dinah stopped him from taking his own life away and now she is trying to give him a birthday like no other. James took one last look at her then that's when he saw her looking at what appears to be what people calls a "picture" of him when he first found out about how the TV works then Dinah smile it quickly reminded him of his own mother who also had that exact smile one of love and joy things that he thought he never see again.

Huh? would you look at that he's crying a highly trained Shinobi taught how to kill a person with just a piece of grass, a shinobi who fought demons, sorcerers, and other shinobis is crying out of Joy? He must of been a little loud because Dinah turned her head and saw him her face went from joy to worried in seconds just like a mother would do. Dinah got out the chair and started to look over him all while gently rubbing his arm trying to calm him down which he was right? then why are tears still flowing down? That he doesn't know.

Dinah: hey James what's wrong? 

James: I...I don't know.

Dinah: is it about last night? what happen James? 

James: it wasn't about last night...It's that you remind me so much of my mother.

Dinah: oh James I'm not trying to replace her.

James: I know and I thank you for not trying to but i'm also grateful for you taking me in, tending to my wounds, and teaching all of these new things. I never really celebrated my birthday and I would like to do it today if you don't mind.

Dinah: of course I don't mind.

With those words James smiled as the two headed out of the Apartment and ventured out into the city that they live in and to be honest James quit enjoyed it he never ate such things before like a cheese burger which is definitely his favorite food right after pizza of course. They did things such as buy him a new phone which he was still learning how it works Dinah took him to an arcade and get this the machines allowed you to play as the character on the screen how exciting is that? Apparently those are called video games  which are very cool after they did that Dinah took him to a store where they pick up a cake that she somehow order without using any messenger which is strange was it magic? gosh he hates magic especially after that godforsaken sorcerer attack a village James wonder what happen to him after he broke his spine in half. After getting the cake Dinah and James went back to their apartment and sat at the tables where Dinah Placed 14 candles she lit them up and started signing this weird song they have for birthdays huh he doesn't know if it's a future thing or an American thing either way he liked it along with the cake. Now it is 11:47 pm James was getting ready for his patrol before leaving Dinah stop him when he turn around he see's her holding a long rectangular box he was confused as to what was in it she nodded her head telling him to open it and when he did James was completely shock by what it was. 

Dinah: do you like it? I figured you should have a better Katana after all your other one did break and don't worry about this one I had a friend who created it that way the blade won't even get a scratch I also added your family crest on the hilt happy birthday James.

James: thank...thank you Dinah this means a lot to me.

Dinah: I also upgraded your suit as well that one is hidden in the city better get it before the Arrows find it.

James: I better get going then see you later...mom.

With that he jumped out the window and begins to run across the rooftops getting ready to find his other birthday that his...mom gave him huh that's definitely going to take some time to get use to but it feels right to call her that and he swears he is not going to be selfish this time he will protect her. On another roof far away from him was Crimson Skull who had a smile on his lips behind his mask as he follows him behind making sure that he can't be detected but this seems to be futile because Nightblade stopped in his tracks and turned to look at him.

Nightblade: how long was you going to follow me Crimson Skull?

CS: *chuckles* your good Nightblade I'll give you that but like I said  we will finish this and now it's the perfect time to do so.

Nightblade: you will try.

As the two would stand in front of each other waiting for one to make the first move as each one is planning on how they will come out on top.
