"It has been said time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens, but it is never gone." — Rose Kennedy

Rory had only been out of the hospital for one day and she was already going stir crazy. She scrolled absent mindedly through her phone for what felt like the millionth time. Hoping to find something new, something to distract her from the chills rippling through her body. She had been warned of the symptoms of withdrawal but it didn't help her deal with them in the slightest. She felt worse than she had when she first woke up in the hospital. Her whole body ached, her chest was tight with anxiety and she just felt useless.

I am so bored I think I'm going to die.

She sent the message to Emily, trying to keep the message light. Rory didn't want to stress her friend out. Rory toss's her phone on the coffee table before her. Emily had left early that morning to interview a serial killer in state lock up in Montana. If Emily could see how much Rory had deteriorated since she went to bed the night before she would be concerned. Rory was going insane knowing she would be left to entertain herself for a few days. She was so restless (another withdrawal symptom). It was honestly the worst time for Rory to have been left alone. She stared blankly up at the ceiling deciding it was as good an activity as any to pass the time. Her mind was blank, she didn't even have the energy to be excited about the new job, or reuniting with her friend. She couldn't even feel anything about surviving what she did. She was just numb. Her phone buzzed on the coffee table. Rory grabbed it glancing at the screen.

I'm sorry I had to go, I'll be back as soon as I can. I'll send you something to entertain you in the meantime x Em

Rory tossed the phone back on the coffee table and stared back at the ceiling. Her mind void of anything other than frustration and anxiety. Both from doing nothing. She was bored there was nothing to do and it was annoying Rory, but also as someone used to being on the go and doing so much she felt overwhelming anxiety at not being able to do anything.

A quick knock at the door broke her focus on the ceiling. She stared at the door blankly. Emily wasn't here, who would be here. She hears the sound again and she slowly gets up stretching her aching muscles. She tugs the sleeves of her sweater down covering her hands. She glances through the peep hole quickly before opening the door.

Spencer Reid knocked for a second time on the door to Emily's apartment. He didn't want to intrude on Rory but when Emily called not long ago worried about her asking him to check in, he agreed without hesitation. He knew that there was something about her that intrigued him. He was unsure if it was the way she'd carried herself through such a horrific ideal, or the shared trauma from being drugged in the same way, or just that she was pretty. The last was probably the least likely, but Morgan kept bringing it up and it seems the commentary had finally implanted itself in his brain. He heard slow shuffling towards the door. The footsteps paused for a moment on the other side of the door. Then the door opened. Rory stood just inside the doorway. Dressed in an oversized Nirvana sweatshirt and shorts. Her hair tied into a messy bun with fuzzy orange socks on her feet. She looked at him for a moment before opening the door a little wider allowing him to come in.

"What's up Doc?" She says with a small smile. Spencer grins at her continued reference to the cartoon rabbit.

"Emily asked me to come check on you," he said earning a groan from Rory who walked back over to the couch. Throwing herself across it. Wincing at the impact it had on her body. Spencer stood in the hallway watching her for a moment taking in her appearance. She looked better, healthier. Her hair was no longer dull and matted, her eyes brighter her skin less sickly and pale.
