My Streetlight

Chapter 1

In this world soulmates exist. Each person when they turn 18 will get a tattoo also known as a soul mark on their arm. The soul mark will start to itch when your soulmate is near. The closer that person is, the more it will itch. The soul mark also doesn't have color until you complete your bond with your mate by kissing them for the first time. 

I'm Lucia. I am an ordinary girl who can't wait for her 18th birthday. My birthday is a week away. My birthday is December 23. Today is December 16th. I am currently hanging out in the food court in the mall with one of my four brothers named Simon who is currently on vacation from the military. 

"Any plans for your birthday yet?" Simon asks while shoving his face with food.

 
"I plan on hanging out with a few friends for a sleepover and stay up until my soul mark appears." I explain.

"I remember how I felt when I got mine." he says while looking over at his left arm. "I remember waiting up all night and then I passed out at 11:50 pm and woke up at 5:00 am the next morning and freaking out when I saw it." He smiled while rubbing the mark.

 
His mark is a red rose with thorns going down the side and behind the rose is a weed plant with gold strings holding them together. I look over at my arm waiting for the moment when I get my mark.

Simon looks over at me and smiles, "Don't worry you will get your mark very soon and then meet your mate soon after."

I look over at him with a small smile," but what if I'm like our parents, what if I don't meet mine until i'm in my 30's!"

 
Simon lets out a small breath," don't worry about it okay, you will meet him when the time is right and also look at me and Rose. We went to the same high school and then we got our marks and found each other and we have been together ever since."

I smiled at him," yeah you're right, I will find him when the time is right."

Simon gave m me a thumbs up and continued chewing his food. His mate Rose has an anchor with a US flag behind it with a gold string holding the flag up with more gold string around the anchor.

 
I also have three other older brothers. Smoky has found his mate. Monty has not found him yet and Jonathan hasn't found him yet but he is dating someone else though.

 
I can't help but look at an elderly couple at the end of the food court. The man has his arm wrapped around his mate. The man has a nurse hat with a few daisies in the hat for his soul mark. The woman has a pair of dog tags with some writing on it which I cant read from where I'm sitting and the dog tags are hooked around some kind of gun. I see the couple look my way. I give them a little smile and they both smile back. I hope I can find my mate and be as happy as that couple. 

I am pulled out of my thoughts when I hear a loud burp. I turn around to see Simon that he finished his food. He tosses his trash into the garbage and turns to me . "Come on, we need to finish shopping for Christmas and my mate and one of our brothers' birthdays. Rose texted me that if we are not back to our parents house in 2 hours she will kill the both of us." He says with a scared look on his face.

 
Almost two hours later and we barely managed to finish shopping. As we walk thru the door Simon and I got hit in the face with a shoe then Rose starts yelling at us, "I told you to be back here in two hours not two hours and fifteen minutes. Do you realize it takes a lot to plan things around here? We need to start preparing multiple things!"

 
Me and Simon bow our heads in shame explaining that we were sorry. He walks over and apologizes to his mate for both of us and starts helping her. I walk into the room and shut the door. I put down my bags on my desk then walk over and sit on my bed. I Let out a deep breath and allowed myself to fall backwards on the bed. I didn't realize how tired I was because I felt my eyes get heavy. I let sleep to take me away from all the stress of life.

I slowly wake up the next morning to the smell of chocolate, bacon and coffee. I look around my room and confused. I thought someone would have awakened me last night but I'm thankful no one did because of all the stress I've been having about my soulmate.

I walk into the kitchen greeting my family. "Good morning everyone!"

My parents, Smokey and Montey, are already at work. Johnthen left for school early, so it's just me, Simon and Rosa..

Rosa turns around towards me,"morning sleepyhead" she says with laugh

I give her a smile while grabbing a cup of coffee.

I start piling things onto my plate, "Hey why didn't you wake em last night after we got home?"

"You seemed pretty tired and stressed about you know your soulmate so we thought it would be best to just let you sleep" Simon explains

"Oh" I say surprised "thank you" 

Rose comes over, puts her hand on my shoulder and flashes her signature smile. I smile back at her then starts shoving food into my mouth. I'm thankful for having Rose in my life she is the best sister in law a girl can hope for and shes an amazing soulmate to Simon. 

As I am about start talking to Simon my eye catches the clock. I also choke on my coffee, "shit, I'm gonna be late if I don't leave in 5 minutes so see you guys later!" I say as I grab my car keys from the off the hook and run out to my car and head for school.
