CHAPTER FOURTEEN

The phone call was more than enough evidence for Nikita to take the whole family feud seriously. Xavier had called everyone in the house together to put his plan with Nikita into action. If the culprit was among them, they would fall right into their trap. He wanted to inform his Uncle about the developments and his relationship with Nikita now, but his Uncle had his own problems and Xavier didn't want to add to them.

"As you all know, the day my wife got into an accident, there was a dead body found in my office," Xavier began, his eyes scanning the room. "And I'm made to believe that that dead man was there for something."

The room was silent, with all eyes fixed on Xavier. Nikita watched as Helena shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her eyes darting around the room.

"You all know what it is," Xavier continued. "No matter how you try to push the thought away, you know what he was after."

Helena was the first to speak up, her voice laced with sarcasm. "And what is that? What does what the dead man wanted have to do with this stupid meeting?" She rolled her eyes, her body language screaming defiance.

Nikita watched her closely, her job to monitor the reactions of the family members while Xavier hit them with his news. She noticed the way Helena's eyes flashed with anger, the way her jaw clenched in frustration. Nikita's mind raced with possibilities - was Helena hiding something? Or was she just angry at being accused? Nikita's eyes never left Helena's face, her gaze piercing as she tried to read between the lines.

"Mother, you of all people should know," Xavier said, his eyes locked on Helena's face.

Helena let out a sarcastic laugh. "Mother? Now I'm your Mother? Fine, I don't know what he was after, so tell me." Her voice was laced with skepticism.

Xavier held up the documents. "The proof that Dad willed the business to me. Once this person gets their hands on it and changes the name on that document, everything changes." His eyes scanned the room, making sure everyone was paying attention.

Damon spoke up, his voice cautious. "Is it a good idea to bring it in here?" He glanced around the room, his eyes lingering on each face. "As for me, I would prefer you didn't tell anyone of us about it because one of us could be after it."

Xavier nodded. "That's true."

"Maxwell should be the prime suspect because if you're gone, he takes over automatically as the second son. I wouldn't pay Eugene that much attention though." Damon's eyes sparkled with excitement, enjoying the detective work.

Eugene raised an eyebrow. "Why? Do I look like I wouldn't covet someone's property?" Her voice was laced with sarcasm.

Damon smirked. "No, you don't have the balls to do so."

Xavier intervened, his voice calm. "Let's not suspect anyone. The reason I brought everyone together to share this information is because I trust you all, and as family, we should all look out for the criminal."

Eugene spoke up, her voice eager. "Then, let me take care of it. The documents, hand them to me"

Xavier smiled. "My wife already volunteered to help with that." He glanced at Nikita, who smiled back at him.

Maxwell stood up, his face expressionless. "I need some air." He walked out of the room towards the door, Nikita following him.

Xavier watched them go, wondering what their conversation would entail. He hoped Nikita could get through to Maxwell, find out if he was hiding anything.

"What's up?" Maxwell asked, standing outside, his eyes fixed on Nikita as she approached him. He had noticed her following him and couldn't help but wonder what she wanted.
