CHAPTER EIGHTEEN (FINALE)
The news of Xavier's impending resignation sent shockwaves through the business world, leaving shareholders and colleagues stunned and searching for answers. His phone rang nonstop, with urgent calls from investors and board members demanding a meeting to discuss his sudden decision. But Xavier was resolute, his focus fixed on a higher priority: tracking down Maxwell and putting an end to his sinister schemes.
Meanwhile, the Fashion School was abuzz with excitement and curiosity. Students swarmed around Nikita, bombarding her with questions about her husband's unexpected move. "Do you know why he's stepping down, Nikita?" "Is everything okay?" "What's going on?" The barrage of inquiries was relentless, and it took all of Nikita's poise and grace to extricate herself from the crowd without revealing too much.
Undeterred by their previous experience with Daria, which had ended in disappointment, Nikita and her friends decided to don their detective hats once again. They began to dig deeper into the mystery surrounding Xavier's resignation, determined to uncover the truth behind his sudden decision.
"Do you want to try calling him?" Temin suggested, her voice laced with concern.
Nikita shook her head, her expression skeptical. "I doubt he'd pay me any attention. Remember, I'm the cold-hearted bitch who kicked him out of my house. I knew something was wrong then. I don't know why I didn't ask," she replied, her tone tinged with regret.
Wyatt spoke up, his eyes narrowing in thought. "Maxwell's going to take over, right? It still favors you, Nikita."
Temin's brow furrowed in confusion. "Why would he take over? Does he have something on Xavier?"
Nikita's eyes clouded, her mind racing back to a previous encounter. "There was a time Thomas came by my place, and he told Maxwell that Xavier had some problems. When I asked him, he didn't tell me what the problem was," she revealed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Temin's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes urging her to take action. "I think you should ask him yourself. He should be at your place if he isn't at headquarters because of the news, right?"
Nikita nodded, a sense of determination washing over her. "Okay. I'll keep you guys updated," she said, her voice firm as she stood up and walked out of the room.
That decision proved to be the best one Nikita made in her life. As she arrived at her house, she spotted Thomas' nanny in the parking lot, a telltale sign that he was inside her apartment. Her heart raced with anticipation, knowing she could finally get the answers she sought.
She slipped past the nanny, unnoticed, and pushed open the slightly ajar door. The heated conversation between Maxwell and Thomas enveloped her, their voices raised in anger. Thomas' stance, his feet planted firmly on the ground, sent a shiver down her spine. Something was seriously amiss. The man everyone thought was crippled was standing.
Thomas's face turned beet red with rage as he glared at Maxwell. "How could you let him know you aren't his brother? You have let the plans I made my entire life fall apart!" he thundered, his voice echoing off the walls.
Maxwell stood his ground, his eyes flashing with defiance. "How was I to know he was in the room? I didn't know they had figured out he was there, and the Police were trailing me. How exactly was I to know that he had been suspecting me this whole time?!" he shot back, his voice rising in protest.
Thomas's expression turned cold and calculating, his eyes narrowing as he cut through the argument. "Enough! We don't have the time to go back and forth arguing because it wouldn't do us any good. You said the Police are after you, so you simply have to leave the country before they put a travel ban on you."
