song: Elephant by Tame Impala

We run onto the deck after John B, who drops the bag onto the wood below, all crouching down around him and the bag, eager to look inside. I sit beside him, fiddling with my fingers impatiently.

"What do you guys think it is?" Kie asks, leaning on the beam beside me.

"I mean , gotta be money, right?" John B mumbles, tugging on the zip.

"That or a couple of keys with street value to the low to mid-mild." JJ smirks keenly.

"Can we please just open the bag?" Pope blurts out, rather harshly.

Everyone turns their head towards him in confusion, all of us with the same shocked expression that resided on our faces.

"Wow, Pope." I mutter in utter shock.

"That's a rare outburst of emotion." My brother teases.

Pope throws his arms up, "Okay, you guys are literally killing me with anticipation. Just open the bag; we almost died over this!"

John B finally unzips the bag and reaches his hand inside. Pulling out a metal canister, he is quick to screw off the lid and toss it aside with no care. He tips the content into his palm and the group leans in to inspect it.

Me and John B slowly turn our heads to look at one another whilst the other huff out a sigh of disappointment, clearly expecting money or something better.

"Bella, John B. It's not worth anything.' JJ groans, run his hands through his hair in annoyance.

"Guys, this isn't just any compass." I begin to say.

John B looks up stunned, "It's our father's."

"Your dad's?" JJ furrows his eyebrows.

"How did it even get there?" Kie chimes in, astonished.

I shrug, "Someone planted it there. Maybe he gave it to Scooter orrr Scooter stole it."

"All of those possibilities are liable." Pope nods.

"Still, it's worth nothing." JJ huffs, throwing his arms up in an almost angry manner.

"It's a compass, dipshit. It'll probably lead us somewhere where there's something that IS worth a lot." I push up on my knees to stand, "Now can we go back inside before I freeze to death?"

"Yes, ma'am." JJ says in a mocking tone, before scooping me up off the floor into his arms in a cradle position, making me screech in shock. He doesn't put me back down, no. Instead carries me all the way back inside whilst the others chat amongst themselves, trailing behind.

Once we finally get inside the Chateau, JJ carefully places me on the couch before flopping beside me, pulling my legs up onto his. Everyone else decided to sit on the hammocks outside. JJ taps on my thighs lightly before turning his head to look at me.

"Bella."

"Yes, Jay?" I reply, tilting me head to look back at him.

He clears his throat before proceeding, "We never spoke about, y'know, what happened at the keggar." He looks down at his hands before making his eyes meet mine again.

JJ, nervous? Never...

Composing myself, I sit up straight and cross my legs, now fully facing him, "Jay, nothing actually DID happen. Plus you were so pissed you couldn't even stand straight; there isn't anything to talk about."

His lips curl up into that damn smirk, "Bell, I'm never that drunk. It's just how I act at those kind of things. Y'know from the buzz and adrenaline."
