There was one particular spot that Zoe liked to kiss under Lucy's chin to make her giggle, and hearing that sound so early in the morning was quite the way to wake up.
"Stop!" She squealed as she laughed. "You're the one that told me I have to leave your place early, and now you're keeping me in bed."
Zoe whispered her request, "Five more minutes." Lucy barely nodded, but it was enough permission to surge up and caress her lips slowly as if they had all day to sprawl out on her mattress. Unfortunately, the rest of the world called in the form of her phone ringing. They both groaned at the unwelcome reality check, and Zoe had to roll over and retrieve her device.
Lucy did not want to distract her girlfriend from work, so she slid out from beneath the covers and went into the bathroom to shower. She heard Zoe walk into the room a few minutes later and reported, "I'm almost done in here."
"I'll just shower at the station," Zoe responded.
She pulled back the shower curtain enough to look at her. "Why are you rushing out the door?"
"Apparently, some Hollywood movie guy is coming to the station today to go on a ride along. I need to get there and be prepared for anything. Ride alongs are a pain in my ass."
"They've always sounded so cool. Can I do it?"
"I'm not playing favorites with you. I think Nolan and Bishop should take it."
Lucy pouted. "Can Bradford and I have the next ride along?"
"The only person who hates them more than I do is Bradford. I wouldn't torture him like that."
"You have such a soft spot for my T.O."
"He's a good man and a great cop, which I'm sure you've already figured out by now."
Lucy's fellow rookies regularly bashed her grumpy Training Officer, but she had nothing but respect for him, and it was nice to hear that someone else regarded him similarly. "He really is. He's so misunderstood, you know?"
"Don't tell me you're developing a little crush on the brooding misunderstood guy? What a cliche," She teased.
"Hell no," she spat out with a wince.
Zoe snickered. "You can take your time getting ready here just don't forget to lock up. I'll see you at the station."
After planning to enjoy a few early moments with Zoe only for that to be interrupted by a call, then Lucy had to get ready for work alone in her girlfriend's house, her morning continued to go wrong when the shop she and Tim were assigned had a dead battery, so she needed to get another one, and that shop needed to be gassed up. Somewhat out of sorts and late for the beginning of patrol, she rushed over to pick up the war bags. Tim stood at the window with his arms crossed and scowling at his watch. Lucy knew when he looked that annoyed, it did not bode well for their shift. After being understandably cold about her tardiness, Tim was summoned to see Grey for yet another unplanned change in her day that she had to adjust for.
Tim walked over to his Watch Commander's office with his heart in his throat; his mind had been swirling since the night before when he accidentally discovered that his rookie was dating his boss, and he worried that Grey found out about the relationship as well. Unsure if he should pretend he had no idea about Lucy and Zoe or if he should admit to being inadvertently made aware of the couple, he was so preoccupied that when Grey started talking about a drug bust, Tim was confused. It was all made clear when he heard that Isabel was the one that was arrested for possession with the intent to sell. Everything else flew out of his brain and his body went numb, because one of his greatest fears, his wife finding herself on the wrong side of the law, was being realized, and he was ill prepared to deal with that.
