"Could it be?" I asked myself while looking at my phone.
I have never gotten this worry before about Jack's whereabouts. Usually, he would just update me on what he was up to and who he was with.
"How come did this feeling appear out of random?"
"Is it Ashley that triggered the feeling?"
"is that why I felt uneasy around Ashley?"
So many questions playing in my head. I leaned against the window and fell to the floor.
"I have feelings for my best friend...." I declared in shock and sadness.
It was too late, Ashley was in the picture and I had no way to cut and intervene in their potential relationship. I am not that type of person. Also, what made me think Jack would reciprocate the feelings back? He would probably laugh it off and call me silly. He only sees me as a best friend with whom he could break the promises. So yes, it is one-sided.
Beep beep. Whatsapp notification from Jack!
I did not want to seem like I was waiting for his text, so I walked to my bed, switched off my light, and tucked myself in, hoping it would take some time for me to read his text. Idiot, I should have switched off my read receipt. But it was still too soon for me to read his text. I just stared at the wall to get more time, and the next thing I knew, I was awakened by my alarm. I fell asleep!
I rushed to get ready for school, packed my books according to the timetable and headed down to have breakfast.
'Darling, do you need us to send you to school today?" Dad asked.
"It is okay, Dad. I will go with Jack," I replied.
"Alright darling, have a great day at school. Both mummy and I will be back late tonight, we are visiting our friend in the hospital, alright? We will transfer some money for you to get your dinner with Jack," said Dad as he kissed my forehead right after my mum kissed me. I nodded and continued to eat my breakfast.
"Have a good day at work too!" I wished them and off they went to work.
I slowly put the dishes in the sink for our housekeeper, Lena to wash when she comes around later in the afternoon. Lena has always been with us since I was 4 years old, but as I was already in my teenage years, she requested to not be a stay-in housekeeper and lessen her working hours with us. It is understandable, she is getting old and she would want to spend some quality time with her own grandchildren and family.
I took my school bag, checked the mirror and walked out to check on Jack. Weird, he was not rushing out of his home, his car was not out either. I pulled out my phone and called him. He did not pick up the call. Weird. Did he stay out late yesterday? I called him again, his house is too big for me to be knocking and hoping he would hear from below.
"Bella?" He answered.
"Jack! Are you awake? We are going to be late to school, I am outside now!" I hurried him.
"You didn't read the text did you?" he asked.
"Text? What text? Are you not coming in today?" I asked again.
"No Silly, I am not going to school with you today, I am fetching Ashley, she has no transportation to school since her parents are out early!" he explained.
"What?!" I shouted.
"Read your text, the next time! I got to go, I will see you after school," he said and ended the call.
