Esmerelda POV

As we walked down the road toward our house, I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened in the bathroom. Arden was out of control, and I couldn't stop him from kissing our mate. Her lips tasted like Heaven, and it was the breaking point for Arden to take control. You would think that it was me, but it wasn't. I didn't have the power to stop until Mrs. Hall knocked on the door.

"Mate," Arden said in my head. He was trying to push the barrier I had in my mind to get to our mate. He wanted to finish as we started. It is getting harder to keep him under control; I am still tired from earlier when he was fighting me.

He uses his aura, causing me to crumble down the road a few times. Carmen tried to calm him down, but even her wolf couldn't do anything.

"What the hell is wrong with your wolf," Carmen said.

"I don't know. He never acted like this before", I said, wincing in pain from the headache, "I don't know how much longer I can hold him like this. I need to get in the cage."

I walked faster to the house, struggling not to fall every time I took a step. Arden could break free from the barrier when my foot stepped inside the house, causing me to see only in his eyes. He suddenly put a barrier, causing me not to take control anymore.

"Need mate," Arden said, taking control of my body. I could feel my body shake as my claws came out.

"Arden, stop," I said in my head.

"Mate," my wolf repeated.

"Damn it, Esmerelda", Carmen said, grabbing a hold of me. She struggles as she drags my body to the cage that is in the basement.

The cage was in the basement, and every werewolf in the human world must have one. Sometimes, the wolves would be out of control, and the cage would help keep them detained before going out, revealing our secret.

It is a big room with metal doors and bars. Multiple chains are drilled into the wall and will hold a wolf down. The chain is made out of wolfbane, which is toxic to wolves. It allowed the wolves to be weak when they needed to be locked up.

"No, mate," Arden said, shoving Carmen off, causing her to slam against the other side of the wall. Arden fought against her, breaking a few items and punching holes in the wall.

"Enough," Carmen said, expanding her aura.

Unfortunately, with me not having control, Arden doesn't feel anything. Carmen quickly shoves me against the wall, allowing her wolf to growl at Arden. Just then, Zavier walks into the chaos.

"No", Arden said. He shoved Carmen off again, this time 10 feet away. Zavier quickly lunged at Arden and held him against the wall again.

"It's the New Moon effect," Zavier said, looking in my eyes.

"What?" Carmen said, pinning one side of my shoulder as Zavier pinned the other side.

"There is a legend I read about on the New Moon. It has a particular effect on the King of Alphas. When he finds his mate and hasn't marked her during a new moon, it has a certain aura that would cause him to have a stronger desire to mark and mate with her. It is like a she-wolf in heat; the smell heightens the male wolf's desire. The new moon heightened him. We must get him in the cage before he shifts entirely." Zavier said, taking Arden downstairs.

Arden was already tearing my suit apart. I am trying to fight him in my head, but it's a losing battle. He is not listening at all to what I am saying. The barrier he put up is too strong to break.

"Mate," he roars, using his aura to cause Zavier and Carmen to crumble down. He uses his speed to get 10 feet away until I push the barrier open he had on me, causing my body to fall. I have control of my body. I started to wince at the pain of Arden retaking control.

"Hurry," I told the others, trying to take me to the cage. Soon, Arden retook control.

After 20 minutes of battling, Zavier and Carmen got Arden in the cage before he completely shifted. They chained his neck and legs, not allowing him to move at all. He growled and barked at them, demanding they release him. They were fighting his Alpha orders.

Arden was not an ordinary wolf. The wolfbane barely has any effect on him. He is still on his feet, trying to rip the chain from the walls. The chain was digging in his skin, causing him to bleed a little before his healing ability closed the wound. It was a repeating process all over his body.

"Zavier, what did the legend say about when the effect wears off?" Carmen demanded.

"It's like a Full Moon. The effect will wear off in the morning. Arden will have to stay here until the sunrise if he doesn't die from the chain," he replied.

Suddenly, Arden howled loudly, causing the room to shake violently. It was a howl of distress. The Darkmoon pack will answer unless Carmen says no.

I could see Carmen's eyes gone black as she was mind-linking her pack not to come. Suddenly, she grabbed a bowl of water and threw it at Arden. As the water touched his fur, he squealed in pain. It wasn't water; it was liquid wolfbane. Arden was then forced to lie down as the liquid burned his skin.

"Esmerelda, get back control," Carmen yelled at me.

My mind is still exhausted, and I feel like I can't keep fighting for much longer. Arden's strength is overwhelming, and I am now begging for the torture to end.

"What's going on?" a female voice suddenly said.

It was Jordyn; she must have heard the howl.

"Arden is in control of Esmerelda's body. Stay back; you have not yet mastered the restraint of alpha orders.", Zavier said, keeping his mate behind him.

"Mate," Arden whined as he struggled to get back up. He was weak due to all the wolfbane. I could feel my skin burning. Carmen put too much liquid wolfbane on me.

"Arden," Jordyn called out. I could still see his eyes as she walked over.

"Arden," Jordyn repeated, "Allyson is sad. She doesn't want to be with anyone. You wanting to go to her will cause her not to want you."

Arden whine louder, "Mate doesn't want me?"

"Not right now," Jordyn said, "Can you feel her?"

I could tell Arden was searching for his other half. Since we share physical touch with her, it allows our bond to grow stronger. Sure enough, I could feel her sadness. It made me wonder if it was a big mistake to kiss her. Did she regret it immediately when I left?

I close my eyes, sensing her location. I used this before the last time I was unconscious. I could feel a bed. I opened my eyes and saw that I was in her room again. I looked around and saw my mate crying. I could feel her heart breaking.

Did I cause this? I questioned.

Arden was next to me in his wolf form. He whined at her, and he could feel her pain. I closed my eyes again, allowing myself to be back in the cage. Arden had finally calmed down but was still too weak to shift back. Jordyn was still over us, telling us to calm down and not to go to Allyson. The chain on the feet was off; the only thing keeping us bound was the chain around the neck.

I mindlinked Carmen to let us rest here for the night. She nodded and led the others away. I stayed still in silence while listening to Arden's weak breath. I stared at the plain wall that was ahead of me.

"Arden," I said weakly, "We need our mate's approval before we kiss her again. I don't want to be the cause of her pain. I don't want our mate to reject us." I was weak, and it wasn't long before I drifted to sleep on the cold, hard floor.

The sound of my mate's cry rings in my head.
