Chapter 4- The Letter Part 4: Plane Rides and Relatives

Sophie got on the plane and put her bag under her seat. She normally loved the airport and plane rides, but she had a sick feeling in her stomach that she couldn't explain.

She had tried to wave it off as nothing, but she couldn't get the horrible feeling to go away.

Instead of worrying, Sophie put on her headphones and started listening to music. She had gotten the window seat, her favorite, so she looked out the window at the man loading the suitcases onto the plane. She had so much respect for the suitcase workers, because they had to lift so much of other people's stuff.

One song ended and another began. Sophie sighed. The waiting before takeoff was always the hardest. Finally, the plane started taxi-ing {{fam idk how you're supposed to type this 😭}}, and the flight attendant started talking.

"Hello, and welcome to European Airlines..."

Sophie zoned out as the woman continued speaking. She had heard this same spiel a thousand times. Life vests, check. Emergency exits, check. Oxygen masks (put yours on before you help anyone else), check. Check the laminated flier in the seatback pocket in front of you for drink options, check.

Finally, the plane made its way onto the runway. Sophie paused her music and took out her headphones and watched as the plane began to soar into the air.

She sat through the eleven and a half hour flight eating, drinking juice, listening to music, and reading. Her mom had told her to go to sleep, and she had really tried. Normally, sleeping on a plane was no big deal to her. But her strange premonition wouldn't go away, and every time she almost drifted off to sleep, she woke up with a start.

Therefore, it was a very sleepy Sophie who got off the plane the next day. In fact, she was so tired that she barely realised her name was being called as she stepped out of security and into the baggage claim area.

"Sophie!" Sophie looked up. Her mother nudged her gently. "Look! It's your cousins!" She saw her cousin Emmy standing there with a big sign that said 'Welcome Peregrines!' William stood next to her, looked tired but excited.

Sophie smiled. She'd never met them in person, but she'd seen pictures. Her aunt Mary and uncle Jace were standing behind them, smiling.

"Welcome!" My uncle said, embracing his brother. "It's about time you came to visit!" My dad laughed.

"You're right, it's been too long. You haven't even seen the kids since they were tiny!" Sophie turned to her cousins as their parents kept talking.

"Thank you for coming!" She said, smiling. "I'm a little tired, so sorry if I don't talk much right now." It was a habit of hers to inform people if she wasn't up for much talking so they wouldn't think her rude. "I'm Sophie, by the way." Emmy laughed.

"We know who you are," she said. I grinned. She seemed nice.

"Sorry, I guess I didn't really need an introduction. Emmy, right?" She nodded.

"Yup! And this is my brother William." I turned to him and smiled.
"How are you, William?" William laughed. "What is it?" I asked, confused.

"You sound so strained," he grinned, hands on his hips. "We're cousins, stop worrying so much." I let out a breath. I had been pretty worried about meeting William and Emmy, and the strange feeling I'd been having wasn't helping. We were cousins, but I'd never met them. I guess my feelings had been pretty obvious.

"Am I that bad?" I asked, laughing. He snorted.

"You look like you're being held at gunpoint!"

"Well," I said, clearing my throat. "No more of that. I guess I'm going to have to get used to you guys at some point." William just laughed again.

Uncle Jace helped my dad load our bags into the van and we all just barely squeezed in. "Is everyone buckled up?" my uncle asked. There was a chorus of yeses, and we started off, my head aching even more as we drove down the wrong side of the road.

But anyway YES another chapter! I have so many ideas and not enough time but hopefully I'll start uploading more frequently 👀
