Chapter 4: The world around us

When the lesson was over, I returned to the dormitory and lay down to my bed.

The room here is... mmm how to describe it? We are all nobles... except Kathy, but my room is kinda cheap. As newcomers, our room is situated on the third floor. Second one is inhabited by students in second year and the first one is reserved for the last year students.

The room contains a bunk bed on its right side, wardrobes on the left and a small table with chairs in the middle. Since Aria immediately chose the upper one, I am now lying on the one below.

„Anna, are you... why are you here?!"

Aria suddenly burst open the door and looked at me.

„Why do you..."

„There is one extra lesson... come with me!"

„Eeeh? Why?"

„We were told about it after the last lesson. Since Kathy is just a commoner, teachers decided to give one extra lesson of basic knowledge."

„Ahh... I don't..."

But before I could say it, she was already pulling me through the corridor and outside. We got to the auditorium when one teacher was already speaking.

„This lesson is not mandatory, so you don't need to attend it."

(Why does he mention it now when I was brought here against my will?)

„I also want to learn."

We sat on two available seats closest to the door and the teacher continued his speech.

„That is all for the introduction of our kingdom and now we will look at its surroundings. As many of you know, this continent is divided into three kingdoms. The other two are Kingdom of Sun and Kingdom of Moon. All kingdoms are governed by humans. But we are not the only inhabitants of this world. There is also one dark place on its other side... place ruled by demons, which we are at war with."

„In comparison to humans, demons have high magical and physical defenses, so even though we have guns and magic spells, those can't inflict them any fatal wounds. The only weapons, which are effective even against high demons, are those enhanced with spiritual circuits and chargeable with spiritual power."

„And that is why we need more persons like Kathy here."

His last words threw me off balance. Is her spiritual power so high, that even the king granted her the opportunity to study here? Is her power so high, that even my prince is more interested in her than me? I need to find out what her stats exactly are.

„Teacher! What spiritual power is considered high?"

„Before asking, please put your hand up."

„Oh."

„But since you already asked... if you look at Kathy here, her power is about 500. It is not enough to kill a demon lord, but considering the fact, that she is a commoner and that everyone's stats can be doubled when trained properly, it is quite high. No other student here has it this high... not even those in the last year."

„I see. Thanks."

(So is that it? Now I can see why Leo revolves around her so much.)

(But even though she is important for the kingdom, I will be its future queen. Shouldn't he be also interested in me?)

„Now let me talk about your life here. Every year consists of 320 days. After 5 months... or 160 days, you will be examined again to see how much your stats increased, but that is not all. There will be also written tests to verify your knowledge. Those of you, who will not improve enough, will still have a chance until the end of the year... or more precisely to the second half of Water season. If you do not improve enough, your life here will end... I mean that you can then return home and never come back."

„That is all for this lesson. You can leave now."

I returned to the dormitory together with Aria and thought about what I learned today.

(So demons can be harmed only by spiritual weapons... using high enough power... 500 or more... all stats can be doubled... and my SP is... 10.)
