Aria again tried to comfort me, but it had no effect.
„How can I calm down, Aria? That girl keeps lying and someone even moved me to another room while I was sleeping! What is happening here?"
„I am sorry, I was hard sleeping and didn't hear anything."
„I don't try to blame you. You are my only friend here."
„But I don't understand why is this happening to me."
„Maybe some students here envy you."
„What do you mean?"
„Some girls here might have crush on prince Leo or wished to become future queen themselves, others might sympathize with one of factions, etc..."
What Aria said, shocked me. I was just supposed to become future queen, but I didn't want to be part of any political games or scheming. Am I too naive?
„Why do you know so much about these things?"
„My father spoke about this stuff many times and warned me to never participate in these games. He said, that as the third daughter of baron, I don't need to care about politics and I can just enjoy life."
(Ahh... so Aria is just a baron's daughter...)
I never tried to find any info about other students. All what I cared about, was prince Leo. In this kingdom exist several ranks of nobility... from the highest to the lowest they are: royal family, duke, count, marquees, viscount, baron and baronet. Only those of rank viscount and higher have chance to become part of royal family.
Suddenly I started to envy Aria. As a daughter of baron, she doesn't need to care about this.
(Why was I even engaged to the crown prince? I have to call my father! But what if he has any business meeting right now... and it might be better to not tell him about my problems now.)
„Oh... Anna, you own this device?"
Aria spotted my magme device before I hid it again in my bag.
„How does it work? My father is not rich enough to buy these things."
Magme device or Magical Messenger is just the latest technology. Transferring small amount of magical energy into it, anyone can use one of its functions: either send a text message or make a call. I explained that to her and she was thrilled about it.
According to what Aria told me, I became a part of some political game. Even though we all are equal here as students, several girls of higher ranks might envy me for being fiancé of the crown prince and these girls can be even in different factions and all these groups compete for favor of the royal family.
Now I understand what is happening here, but how does Kathy fit into all of this? Why does she lie about me?
(And isn't the main purpose of studying here to prepare for war with demons?)
While I was talking with my best friend Aria, someone knocked on our door.
(knock, knock)
„Is Anastasia Browne present there?"
„Yes."
(Who is it this time?)
„A girl named Kathy is waiting for you in the park near the big tree to apologize."
A girl behind the door immediately left when she passed on the message.
„Is she really going to apologize to me? Shall I go there?"
