Zuri leaned against the cold metal of the cage, holding a sleeping Caesar in her arms. She was wearing Caesar's red shirt shirt since Rocket ripped hers off. She wasn't a fan of long-s;eeved shirts, but it was better than having her titties out and about.

Zuri let out a sigh as she cradled her little brother to her chest, tears building up in her eyes. It was cold and dark in there, and the apes were aggressive. Zuri knew that she should have expected this, but she didn't expect the hurt and betrayal that came with it.

Just when she thought she had it all, it was ripped away from her in an instant. Zuri wiped away any tears and went back to rubbing Caesar's head as he slept. She heard a soft sound, like a bellow from an orangutan. She blinked and looked up, only for her eyes to widen.

It was the orangutan from earlier, and he was looking right at her with his soft brown eyes. The two made eye contact with each other, not making a sound. Zuri blinked slowly and tilted her head, looking at him.

After a few moments of silence, the orangutan started to speak in sign language while making soft chittering sounds. "Hurt bad?"

Zuri gasped and carefully shifted so she wouldn't wake up Caesar. "You know sign language?" As she did that, she made similar noises the orangutan was making.

The orangutan's eyes widened before they filled with warmth and curiosity before he replied, "Circus orangutan."

Zuri giggled softly, a smile slowly growing on her face and purring softly. "My name is Zuri. What is your name?"

Maurice tilted his head before replying, "Name is beautiful. My name is Maurice."

Zuri blushed a little bit, her eyes flicking with shock before she purred again, before replying. "Thank you. That is so sweet of you."

After a few more minutes of silence and eye contact, Maurice started to speak in sign language, "You different. Not like other humans. You make...animal sounds. How?"

Zuri gazed at Maurice, her eyes lingering on his face as she searched for the right words. Her mind raced with doubts and hesitations, but a sense of trust began to flicker within her. Maurice's demeanor set him apart - there was no hint of aggression or rudeness in his actions. He didn't seek to intimidate her or her brother. And it was in his eyes that she found reassurance.

As she looked into his eyes, she discerned a captivating blend of gentleness and intelligence. Their warm, rich brown color seemed to reflect the depth of his character. The more she thought about it, the more her heart swelled with a sense of comfort and security. A deep breath steadied her, and she met his gaze once again.

"I was an experiment in the lab since I was young. They changed my DNA over and over again. They gave me powers, but I don't know how to use them. I was raised by chimps my whole life, but I was taken from my home, and I lost my chimp parents. My eyes changed, my teeth changed, and my ears changed," Zuri signed, letting out a sigh. She moved her hair behind her ear, revealing her pointy ears.

The orangutan watched her, his gaze softening. His brown eyes moved to Cesar before meeting her gaze again. "You hurt all your life, ye so strong. You are unique and so strong. Your eyes are like gorgeous gems and your hair is like a fire with how bright. Spirit is pure and unbreakable."

Zuri couldn't help but feel flustered from all his words and his compliments, her body heating up. She couldn't help but purr and covered her face. She could not believe that she was getting flustered because of an orangutan. Zuri let out a giggle before looking at him, smiling widely. Her fangs were visible, but they didn't scare Maurice, like how others were scared of them.

But, that is when Maurice turned around and looked the other way, leaning against the cage wall. Zuir was caught off guard and yet confused at the same time. But, she quickly found out why he stopped talking to her and turned away.

Didge and his father were back, this time with a crate and a dart gun. The father aimed the gun at a chimp and pulled the trigger. There was a shriek of pain from the chimp and then a thud before silence again.

"He's good," the dad said before his son unlocked the door.

"Be careful, Zuri. Humans are not like smart apes. Keep spirit strong," Maurice signed, looking into her eyes with his own. Zuri saw the genuine care in his eyes and nodded before looking back at the scene.

"You're working late," the dad told Dodge as the son dragged the chimp out by the head. "GEN-SYS needs three more."

Genesis's eyes widened at the name, before growing softly. She held Caesar in a protective embrace, her ears pinning against her head. She looked back at Maurice and gave him a nod. Maurice nodded back before he turned away to get comfortable.

Zuri sighed and looked back at Caesar, who was surprisingly still in a deep sleep. Zuri smiled warmly at him and kissed his forehead, still rubbing his head with her hand, her nails scratching here and there.

Zuri soon felt sleep wash over her body, letting out a yawn. She fought to stay awake for a few minutes as she watched Dodge and the dad walk out of the room. When they finally left, Zuri closed her eyes and finally fell into a deep sleep.
