It had been two days since that night and the tension between Aurora and Draco whenever we were in the same room was palpable, to say the least. They tried to avoid looking at each other, but unfortunately it was inevitable. Most of the time when she wasn't in the dungeon with her father, Aurora retreated to her room and talked only to Zephyr, poring over every page of the books she'd taken from the library on how to separate a piece of her soul to bind it to an animal.

Aurora's POV

That afternoon, the sky was covered in grey clouds, and rain beat lightly on the library windows. I lifted my wand and placed the two books I had consulted over the past few days on the shelves. Obviously I hadn't found anything relevant and I began to think that I was chasing a desperate dream.
Mattheo: Sis, are you OK?

As soon as I hear his voice I jump out of fear, I hadn't heard him come in.
Me: Of course
He closes the door behind him and comes towards me. My heart starts beating nervously; I knew very well how much the bond between my brother and Draco had improved over the last time and I also knew that if my brother found out what had happened the other night, it wouldn't end well...
Mattheo: Rory, look into my eyes...
Me: I'm fine.
I repeat this time in a more convincing tone, realising that I probably stuttered the first time.
Mattheo: Can we talk?
Me: We're talking, big brother.

He looks around and then I take his hand and together we walk to his room, I lock it and use a mute spell to make sure no one can hear what we are saying.
Me: What's going on Mattheo...?
Mattheo: I'm starting to think this is all wrong...

I raise an eyebrow in confusion and pour myself a glass of Scotch. I'm about to drink it but he stops me and takes a sip before handing the glass back to me.
Me: What the hell are you talking about?
Mattheo: You're only sixteen, Rory, and you've already killed two people.

I lower my eyes, take a sip from the glass and start to walk around the room nervously.
Me: I don't want to talk about it, my father... our father is proud of me and that's what matters!
Mattheo: Aurora, you are just a little girl.
Me: But I'm the heir of Slytherin, Mattheo! I was born to do great things, like my father before me and ....
Mattheo: And at what cost, to become an assassin just because he asks you to!
Me: Stop it Mattheo... where is my cat...?

Zephyr meows and I pick him up and start petting him
Me: I'm not going to be a disappointment to the family, I'm not going to betray our father after all he's taught me!
Mattheo: It's not betrayal, Aurora, it's doing the right thing! All our lives we were raised with the knowledge that sooner or later we would have to be like him, but I am starting to hate this bond...
Me: I think you are just saying that because you are jealous that our father sees more potential in me!

Mattheo stiffened and a sparkle came into his eyes, I knew I had impressed him. The fact that our father paid more attention to me had always annoyed him.
Mattheo: It's not about the little sister. I don't care who he prefers between the two, I'm over it now. It's about what's right, it's about having a better world....
Me: You didn't seem to be of the same mind a few years ago! You were the first to support our father's idea, to want to fulfil it!
Mattheo: I hadn't met Hermione years ago...

I look at him in shock, did she really say that? I start to laugh hysterically.
Mattheo: Aurora, stop it... AURORA!
Me: You're an idiot Mattheo Riddle! I told you not to think of her like that...
Mattheo: It's your fault that I got interested in her...
Me: Don't you dare blame me, Mattheo! You are the older brother, you should be the one to criticise my romantic choices because they are wrong and go against everything we believe in!

Mattheo: We were under the impression that it was wrong, Hermione is clever, brave and...
Me: What you're saying is dangerous, Mattheo, he won't think twice about killing you if he knows how you feel... it wasn't enough for you to hear his speech about pruning rotten branches the other day!
Mattheo: What are you going to do, kill me too or betray me by revealing my doubts about which side I'm on?
Me: You're my brother Mattheo, I would never betray you... it's just the two of us, remember? I'm just telling you that your choice is too hasty and our father is too powerful... you have to use your head and not your heart, even if it hurts, it's a wrong thing that should not have happened in the past and will not happen in the future...
