Madeleine woke up around 3:08 AM, earlier than he was used to. He peered over his bed looking down at Espressos head.Madeleine rubbed his eyes and looked down at Espresso, trying to think of a way to say hello without scaring him. Espresso looked deep in his own thoughts. Maybe for the better or the worst.
"Why are you still up..?"
Madeleines groggy voice caught Espresso off guard. His head snapped up to look at Madeleine.
"Is it not obvious? I am finishing my wo-"
Madeleine interrupted Espresso with a loud yawn and a thumbs down, extremely childish behavior if you asked Espresso.
"Booo, that is super boring. Are you really losing sleep over some random busy work?"
Espressos eyebrows knitted together and his nose crinkled in annoyance. He sighed heavily before speaking again.
"It is not busy work, Madeleine."
Madeleine rolled his eyes. Sitting up the bed creaked loudly. Affogato cookie and Latte slept in the bunk-bed across of Madeleines and Espressos.
"Okay but on a serious note, you need some sleep. Your eye-bags are not the cutest.."
"When did I ever ask for your opinion? I barely even know you and yet you're making unwarranted comments about my face."
"I am just trying to help you out, Espresso."
"The only thing that needs help is your grade in mathematics..."
A heavy silence filled the room after Espressos comment. That was until Madeleine began to laugh, covering his mouth to muffle it.
Espressos face twisted to a confused one, did Madeleine seriously think this was playful banter?
Madeleine eventually stopped laughing, his eyes lightening. His hands held the edge of the bunk-bed as he leaned forward.
"Oh yeah! I almost forgot to ask. Can you please tutor me? Please?"
Madeleine gave Espresso big puppy dog eyes, he looked quite desperate. But that did not mean Espresso would give in, at least not at first.
"No thank you."
"I can pay you!"
Espressos interest was now caught with the promise of sweet, sweet cash. His eyebrow cocked up and leaned back in his chair.
"How much?"
"Forty dollars for every hour you tutor me."
With a heavy sigh Espresso nodded his head slowly. He didn't like Madeleine but he didn't like being broke even more.
"Fine. We start Monday."
——————————
Once Monday rolled around Espresso began to regret his decision. Surprisingly, it wasn't Madeleine making him feel regret, just the lack of free time he had now.
Madeleine really hadn't spoken to Espresso since he asked for Espresso to tutor him, so he had almost forgotten.
Espressos phone began to buzz from notifications, it was Madeleine asking if Espresso was ready. Espressos heart dropped as he laid in his bottom bunk.
Espresso never thought he could get ready so fast, a simple white button-down and some black pants, which was probably the ones from his work.
Espressos fingers moved fast to respond to Madeleine as a toothbrush was hanging out of his mouth.
"I apologize, but I might be a bit late. Where are we meeting again?"
"The college library."
Espresso dropped his phone on the counter and went back to brushing his teeth as fast as her could. Being late wasn't the best impression.
——————————————
Espresso walked into the library, seeing a few students sitting at the tables. Weirdly, Espresso couldn't spot Madeleine.
He began to walk around a bit. Espressos attention was caught by the sound of a boom, most likely from someone dropping a hard-cover book.
Then came the soft voice of Madeleine apologizing, Espresso found him quite quickly.
"What are you doing?"
Madeleine turned to look at Espresso and smiled before talking in a hushed tone.
"I was trying to get a text for us to use."
"I brought my own.."
"Uhm, oh well I guess. We have an extra now!"
