Valentina gazed at the court, the falling volleyball creating an explosion when in contact with the gym floor. Through her observance, she reminisced her slipping love for the game and her past love for the raven-haired boy on the court. Tobio, she thought, a ghost of a grin appearing on her face. She pushed her umber curls out of her face, shifting her position to obtain a better gaze at the boy, her mind flooding with fond memories of her past on the court.
Her smile vividly took shape as he stiffly celebrated with a ginger boy after winning a point against the opposing team. She bit back a laugh. God, has he always been this awkward? She amusingly pondered as she continued to stare, taking a curl wrapped around her finger hostage from her forest of hair.
"Hey," a voice next to the tranced girl said, attempting to win her attention. Valentina continued to survey the court, unintentionally ignoring the interjection. Her deep hazel eyes brooded the match, concurring it was not going well for the orange and navy-colored team. Her face slumped into her hands with disappointment. This really does suck for them. They're pretty good too. Her mind continued to wander while observing. With a little more discipline and some shaping in skill, I really think-
Her thoughts were interrupted as the voice's owner suddenly appeared in front of the enchanted girl."I said, hey like, a million times now, why are you ignoring me, Val," she angrily pouted, pushing her outgrown bangs out of her eyes.
The curly-haired girl suddenly broke the state of enchantment she was under, and apologetically gazed at her friend. "Shit, I was really into that game, I didn't even notice you," Valentina conceded, leaning back on the bleachers. The girl sulked, dramatically turning around. Valentina shifted her focus back on the match, fidgeting with the hem of her graphic tee as she nervously gazed at the inequality of the score.
Her friend sensed her nervousness and shifted beside her, mimicking her positioning. "What do you think the game's outcome will be?" Renge asked, tilting her head. "It is not looking great for them, but I think they have the skill to win," she continued.
Valentina hummed in agreement, not taking her focus off the game.
She suddenly perked up. "Hey Ren," she began. "Do you remember when we first lived in Miyagi, and our family was close with the Kageyama's?"
Renge broke her attention from the game and turned toward her step-sister. She nodded in excitement. "Of course!"
She grinned. "Man, I miss Miwa so much, I loved doing makeup together, and hair, and nails, and she was like a cool big sister," she babbled, now fully grinning, accentuating the metal in her mouth.
She suddenly paused, her mouth agape. " WAIT DON'T TELL ME THAT WE PASSED HER OR SOMETHING, GOD I'M-" Renge was interrupted by a dark-olive hand covering her mouth.
Valentina narrowed her eyes at her sister's abrupt overreaction. "No nothing like that, and lower your voice!" scolded in embarrassment, biting back a laugh. "People are starting to stare," she seethed, her eyes directed towards a group of girls whispering and pointing at them. The two looked at each other and busted into a fit of laughter.
After calming down, Valentina continued her statement. "Oh, but no. That's not what happened." She pointed out Kageyama in the crowd of teammates as they planned during their time out. "That is Kageyama Tobio," she beamed.
He had appeared a lot different from when she had last seen him; granted, it had been almost seven years since the two had seen one another. He had always been confident, but something was different. It was as if he held himself to the standards of royalty. He physically looked different: Taller, and more muscular; his hair was longer than the previous bowl cut he wore as a child. She let out a small laugh, thinking about that boy's terrible hair. Valentina continued to study him as he played. As much as I don't like feeding into men's ego I'm not an idiot: he's attractive.
Her thoughts continued to spiral before her sister impatiently snapped her manicured finger in front of her face, "Earth to Valentina, are you still with us Valenti-," Renge began to gibe sarcastically, rolling her eyes before viewing what her sister was looking at on the court. "Holy shit, that is Tobio!" She gasped, staring at the court. "I was wondering who was doing those killer sets," She praised.
Renge watched as a bald teammate attempted to give her childhood friend a high five. Kageyama processed his hand for five seconds before hitting it with a forced, creepy smile. God, was he always this awkward, I thought he would've grown out of it by now, she thought, cringing.
Valentina watched Ren as she analyzed the boy. Her sister was beautiful. She had her ink-colored, choppy, bob in a ponytail, with the stray pieces framing her face. The darkness of her hair accentuated the blush on her pale skin, as her opaque, brown eyes viewed the game in deep thought. She had a boyish beauty that underlined her femininity.
Renge looked back at Valentina grinning. "He is literally the same boy, but like taller," she concluded.
They both stared at each other as if their minds were interlinked. "He is so awkward," They both choked out through laughter, earning more glares from the previous group of girls in addition now to two adult men.

"Who would've thought we would end up at the same school," Valentina said, opening her phone to view the text message she had received. Her blue phone charm brushed over her fingers.
Mamá:
Hola Val, el equipo ya ha terminado? Yo los necesito a ustedes regresar a la casa, lo siento. Todavia estoy en el trabajo, y no quiero dejar las niñas solas :(
(Translation: Hey Val, has the match finished? I need you guys to come back home, sorry. I'm still at work, and I don't want to leave the girls by themselves :( )
"Who was that?" Renge pondered, looking over at the small screen on the phone.
"It was mom," Valentina responded, beginning to respond to their mother. "She's still working and doesn't want the girls to stay alone for too long. Let's leave now and catch the next train home, I don't want to walk this late at night."
"It sucks we can't stay for the end of the match though, things are just getting good," Ren moped, packing up her bag. "I also really wanted to say hi to Tobio before we left, it's been so long."
The two began walking down the stairs to get to the exit. Valentina once more looked back at her childhood friend, her eyes softening. "I'm sure we'll get a chance to see him at school!"
"Hey," she started. "We're in class 1-5, right? Maybe he is in the same class as us!"
