Arius

A

re you seriously jealous of Adam, Ari?" Rowan asks, grinning at me from across the room.

I roll my eyes. "What? Why would I be jealous of him? What are you talking about?"

Rowan chuckles, clearly enjoying himself. "Oh, right. You’re not jealous at all. Not to mention how you were practically steaming when he hugged her a little too tightly. Not jealous, huh?"

I raise an eyebrow, trying to hide the irritation building up. "Shut up, Rowan. You're just imagining things."

He leans in closer, smirking. "Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself that. Because clearly, you weren't glaring lasers at his back while he had his arms wrapped around her like it was a full-on bear hug."

"Shut it," I mutter, crossing my arms.

Rowan chuckles even harder. "I’m just saying, you could've been a little more subtle about it. You looked like you were ready to throw hands."

"Whatever," I say, trying to sound unbothered. "I wasn’t jealous."

He raises an eyebrow. "Right. Because I totally didn't see your jaw twitch when he kissed her cheek either. Sure, no jealousy there."

I glare at him, my patience wearing thin. "You are such a pain."

"Aw, I hit a nerve! Guess who’s in denial now," Rowan teases, waggling his eyebrows.

"Stay in denial, mi amore," I say under my breath, the words escaping before I even realize what I’m saying.

Rowan snickers. "Damn, you're slipping. You're way too easy to read."

"Stay out of my head, dude," I grumble, pushing past him toward the ball pit in my house. "Let’s just play. I’m about to wipe the floor with you."

Rowan stands up, following me, still grinning. "You wish. I’m about to show you who’s really in denial. Prepare yourself to lose."

.

We start the first round, and immediately, Rowan’s overconfident. He tries to block my move but ends up tripping over a pile of balls, face-planting into the pit.

"Wait, what just happened?!" Rowan yells, flailing around.

I can’t stop laughing. "That’s what happens when you try to act like a pro. Better luck next time."

Rowan grumbles as he gets up. "Alright, you’re going down next round, Ari."

Round two begins, and this time Rowan actually puts up a bit of a fight. For a second, I think he might win, but nope—I end up taking the round again. Rowan falls back dramatically.
