Existing is overrated. Honestly, I think I’d prefer the sweet release of oblivion.

I leaned my head against the cool glass of my apartment window, staring at the bleak gray skies hanging over the city, and sighed heavily. The weight of my thoughts felt unbearable.

Just days ago, I had converted my scattered musings into a reality I never imagined—for better or for worse. Yes, I had crossed the invisible line during a night of too much wine, barely remembering that intoxicating mix of courage and foolishness that led me to call my boss, Arius Moreno. What if I had spilled all my secrets?

Oh God, no.

My life had become nothing more than a series of disappointments—dining on the scraps of a marriage contract that felt more like a cage than a solution. A desperate measure to escape my burdens.

I briefly checked my phone, the screen lighting up with a missed call from a dealer. He had become all too persistent in his requests for money. Fearing the consequences, I had transferred all my savings in a financial feat of panic-fueled desperation, promising to pay more by the month’s end. I’d have to figure it out; I always did.

But as dreadful as that might have been, a deeper fear gripped me—my job. Surely, I would be fired after my drunken antics and the call that followed? A part of me was already preparing for the worst.
